Sportster 22lr...
« on: January 17, 2007, 04:57:12 PM »
...what kind of groupings can you expect at 50 yds with open sights? What ammo?

I don't currently have a rimfire but I'm thinking of picking one up for me an the kids primarily to do some plinking.

I'd appreciate hearing anyone's comments regarding the Sportster 22lr.

Thanks

Mi Sabot, I know you asked of iron sights and Sportys but I have a Tasco red-dot on mine.

For plinking? Go get one. Great for new shooters, put the dot on what you want to hit and squeeze the trigger.

I understand about teaching kids how to use iron sights but the red-dot IS fun.

I leant my Sporty to a bunch of little leagers at a fun day once. After figuring out hold over, they were hitting Rams at 100 yards with regularity. This was with Rem Golden bullets, the red-dot and a sandbag rest. They had a blast.

Hope this helps.

I don't have iron sites on my sportster , but with a tasco 4x i can put 10 rounds in a 3/4 inch group at about 60 yards , that is with a desent rest like holding it at a tree .

It is my goto gun for tree rats , i love it .

In comparing the 2007 and 2006 catalogs, it seems like they've made some changes to the 22 Sportster.

2006: Monte Carlo stock, scope rail mount included.
2007: Straight stock, no mention of scope rail or it being drilled and tapped.

This seems to apply to the 22 mag as well.

Overall it seems less appealing and also was the reason for me asking about no-scope accuracy.
