hi, i am a new member. ijust got a 45/70 handi w/synthetic stocks for christmas. i have a cople of ? for you guys. i plan on installing the williams peep, will the factory front site work with this set-up??? next a reloading question, i have on hand h4895 and some 2400. i am looking for bullet suggestions. i am  leaning towards 300 grn . i am looking for a mid range load . this  thang kicks pretty good w/the leverloution . looking for  a good  deer load that wont kill on both ends. thanks.

Welcome  bradVA,  your going to have a great time with that 45-70. In my 45-70 I use imr 3031 and have good results with all my loads. If you stay with the loads for the trapdoor springfield, recoil shouldn't be too much of a problem. As you get up into the lever action loadings it can become quite stout,and the Ruger #1 loadings can bring tears to your eyes.Also remember that the heavier bullet weights kick a lot harder,so staying with the 300 -350 grn bullets will help also. If this is your first handy I must warn you, ther will be more of them in your future. It 's an addiction that just buying the extra barrels won't completely satisfy. we all seem to have 3 or more complete rifles ,AND,a few barrels too.

Welcome to GBO, Brad! Take a look at the Peep and Firesights link in the FAQs and Help sticky, that should give you an idea if the factory sight will work for ya.

Pick up a 2006 0r 2007 Hodgdon Annual at Walmart for $7 for  H4895 load data, I use it with several bullets, 28gr of 2400 and the 350gr Hornady RN is a great load, accurate and little recoil. Hodgdon also has data online.
