« on: December 25, 2006, 03:00:23 PM »
I think I am in the market for a 300 barrel. I have a model 700 in 300  I was just wondering about the recoil in an encore compared to a 700. thanks
, if god didnt want us to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat?

I got a great deal on a .300 Mag barrel several years back at the Fox Ridge store.  I haven't shot it lately - too many deployments and not enough time.  I did mount a scope on it and took it to the range right after I got it and it grouped great!  As far as recoil, I really didn't think it was that much different from my .30-06.

A few years ago I took my Encore 300 mag out to an Middleton Island in the Gulf of Alaska.  I must have shot 35 to 50 rabbits.  By the end of the week a red mist hung over the island like a fogbank and my shoulder was black and blue.

By the way, the 300 mag produces sufficient knockdown for bunnies.

I own a 300 Wby SSK barrel with muzzle brake. It is the sweetest shooter I own. It prints under 1/2" on three shot groups. It'll zing 180 gr Accubonds at over 3250 fps and is a pleasure at the bench.

It is for sale too. It is 26" with Integral brake. Built by SSK, it is a Shilen barrel. 27.5" oal.

Recoil?? Never paid attention nor did it get mine until I triggered a round under cover with no ear plugs. I hope to NEVER do that again !!!

I picked up a  .300WM barrel last spring for my Encore, I really wanted a 30-06 barrel just because it's a caliber I'm used to.
I found that with my new .300WM barrel I was developing a flinch, I just was'nt used to that extra bit of "kick" I guess.
I've since installed a Limbsaver Precision fit recoil pad, They say it will reduce recoil by 50%. They were'nt lieing :o :)!!
I absolutely love this caliber & barrel now almost more than my SS 209x.50 barrel (but not quite ;)).
I put a Bushnell Elite 3200 Firefly 3-9x40 scope on it and soon will be putting another 3200 3-9x40 Silver scope on my 209x50barrel.
So, for me being 5'11", 220lbs I found the recoil to be quite manageable and look forward to to put it to some use this fall,
