Smooth or Checkered?
« on: January 20, 2007, 04:31:21 PM »
Looking to order some new grips for a S&W model 66 and can't seem to decide between smooth or checkered grips.  Any thoughts on the matter?

Personally I like the smooth grips. If I'm shooting magnums in my 66 the checkered grips really wear out my hand. Plus, the checkering obscures the beauty of a nice piece of wood. Even in the middle of a hot, humid southern summer I've never had any problem holding on to a handgun or rifle with smooth grips or stock.

I don't see that it makes a lot of difference other than appearance. I like the ssmooth grips for their beauty, but on a working gun I had rather have the checkered grips.  What I really prefer is a set of Crimson Trace grips..........

All checkering is not equal.
I like checkering.

Smooth for me please! I agree that checkering covers the beauty of the wood. Like Griz, I have never found smooth grips to cause slippage. Most of my handguns have stippling or checkering on the front and backstrap anyway.
