Just found out Silver State Ammo is about a mile from my house. I've been fascinated by the 6.8 but I can't talk myself into buying one. Because for us it doesn't do a dang thing the .30-30 can't do. For the military, they want 600-800 yard hit and knockdown capability so they have an argument for it. Totally ignoring the fact that not one soldier in 20 is good enough to hit a man at that distance. I would bet that everyone of us here, because we love shooting, is a better shot than 95% of the rank and file GIs. Pardon the excursion. When we shoot an animal, we want to be able to place the shot in a killing area AND have enough remaining energy to do the job. For most of us that means 200 yards or less for cartridges like this. The 6.8 has a very small advantage over the .30-30 at 200 yards, but the .30-30 has a small power advantage in being able to use 125 and 150 grain bullets at a slightly higher velocity than the 6.8 can manage with similar weights. And that's why I still have a .30-30 barrel and no 6.8.
