model 24(?) 410/22
« on: December 27, 2006, 05:13:46 AM »
I saw a  savage over under 410/22 at a gun shop the other day and I cant get it out of my mind. It  had a wood stock (walnut? did not look like a cheap birch stock)and both barrels appeared to be in great shape. I had always wanted one of these when I was a kid. At one time I had a model 24v 12 ga .223 and really enjoyed it, but I gave it to my son when he graduated college because he had been drooling all over it for a few years anyway. What would be a fair price for the 410/.22 ? I cant  remember the asking price, but I cant get the gun out of my head. Thanks.

I would love to find one for $100 to $150.  I've only seen one recently, and it was a consignment at Gander Mountain.  I think they were asking about $300 for it (and it was not top condition or walnut stock).
Aim small, miss small!!!

Some time back I read an article in one of the major gun magazines concerning rifles chambered for the .22WMR round. Bottom line here, the Savage 24 in this chambering was the most accurate of all the rifles this author had tested.

I have one of these, a birthday present many years ago, and yes it shoots wonderfully. And yes, the stock is walnut, though quite plain. A collector of these said he had seen many variations come out of the factory. Mine has the barrel selector on the side of the receiver, not on the hammer as older ones did. Mine was probably made in 1962. In those days they could ship them through the mail and no FFL, etc.

I'd snatch that rifle in a heartbeat.
