Deliemma on HS-6 powder.
« on: February 23, 2007, 02:01:43 AM »
I made up some loads for my BH in 357 mag. I was using 9.5 gr. od HS-6 powder pushing a 140 gr XTP. Mostly, it seems to shoot fine. Getting it fine-tuned will take practice on my part. I'm waiting for some 158 gr. to come in so I can use the slower buring Lil Gun. The question is according to the speer man., it says 9.8 gr. for a 140 XTP is max. And then hodgdon says 9.5 to 10.5 for the 140. The gun seems to shoot high with the loads of 9.5 gr. I guess I'll try 9.0 of HS-6 til the 158 gr. come in. What say you the RUGER GURU'S?

Standard reloading advise----take the max load reduce by 10% and then work your way up----its not about shooting high----its about blowing yourself up---or not.

Also---look for loading advise for your specific bullet weight and the powder you are using----don't try winging it-----there are numerous sources online and in print---you just need to search it out. 158gn is a fairly standard load---there should be info galore.
