new sc1 combos
« on: January 15, 2008, 01:10:20 AM »
These units are furnished with low pressure pistol caliber barrels. Are these SB1 frames?
Has anyone given thought to a 30/30 on a SB1 as it is in the same pressure range.
I had a Topper in the 80's with a 20-30/30 combo.

If you read the note under the combo guns and two rifles, you'll see they can't be fitted with any other rifle barrels.

  * PLEASE NOTE: The 44 Mag and 357 Mag. cannot be fit to any additional centerfire rifle barrels. They are capable of being fit with accessory shotgun barrels,
but they are only operational with the 44 Mag or 357 Mag rifle barrel that is shipped with the gun.

Quick:
What I was wondering,was would a SB1 frame take the pressure.I have a 1996 Handi with a
30/30 fitted,do you know if the older SB2 is comparable to the newer SB1 as far a strength?

No, they aren't, that's why H&R won't fit rifle barrels to SB1 frames. There are some serious differences between SB1 and SB2 frames, the material they're made of and the heat treating they're given after they're cast. The larger firing pin hole is another issue that causes problems. I suspect the 357/44 SB1 barrels have a lot of freebore to keep pressures down, that's why those SB1 frames can only be fitted with shotgun barrels, and I suspect Huntsman barrels too, although they don't mention it.
