Synthetic for Handi- Factory or Choate?
« on: January 02, 2007, 07:57:03 AM »
I'm thinking about replacing the palletwood on my .45-70 Handi with synthetic and getting a .308 or .30-06 barrel for it.  Choosing between the H&R stocks available from Brownells and the Choate (Monte Carlo or straight, not the skeleton)-- which is the quieter handing of the two?  This is a hunting rifle, so this is important to me.

  Thanks,

 Rick

All of the synthetic stocks available for H&R NEF, except the ATI,  are made by Choate, regardless of where ya get em.

To quiet the hollow synthetic stocks, fill em with something that deadens the sound, foam shipping peanuts works fairly good if you don't want to add weight, lead shot  in an old sock if you do!! :D The Choate Varmint stock weighs a little over 2lbs incl forend if you want something to help reduce recoil, depending on your loads.....if you like that style stock. The Survivor stock has no recoil pad, but will accept a slip on.
