IM A BIT DISSAPOINTED....
« on: February 27, 2007, 01:42:18 AM »
I just bought the 1895g limited only 500 made..
the one with the black and grey laminated stock and stainless metal.
i brought it home and while i was wiping it down the rear sight actuly fell out and hit the ground...
you would think that a limited gun would have had a little more care in being built..
i thought i would keep it unfired and in excelent condition but when the sight hit the ground it ruffed the side of it up....  now what..to do..
ohh well

:o :o :o  WOW!  Maybe you can call Marlin and get a new sight or maybe a different gun, for collector purposes?  Me, oooohh, I'd probably go ahead and shoot it.  I'm sure that I would eventually anyway.  Too hard to resist.   ;)

Cut a little peice from an aluminum can the same size as the base of the dovetail.

Then put that under the dovetail as you gently tap the sight back in.

I'll bet it'll stay in.

go ahead and leave it off and get a good set of WWG ghost rings for it.   Might want to get a scout scope base for it while your at it to fill up that rear dovetail, also makes for a nice place to mount the scout scope ;).   Take her out and shoot it, then take it out and kill somethingwith it

Bap,

That is actually a fairly simple fix. You will need a small punch and a brass hammer. You just dimple the steel on one side of the dovetail with the punch, insert the sight into the groove, then dimple the other side with with the punch and this should hold it in place. If you don't understand what to do or you don't feel comfortable doing this just take your gun into a trust worth gunsmith and it shouldn't cost you much and it is a fast fix. Don't ruin your collectors item gun though because others may not understand the personal value you place on this or any other weapon. Guns are only worth what you are willing to pay for them and if you are willing to pay for a 1 of 500 gun then it is obviously worth it to you to not use it if you don't want to.

I called the gun dealer and he is getting a hold of marlin and davidson and taking care of the problem for me..
its hard not to shoot this gun, but i have another guide gun and getting ready to buy an 1895 cowboy(both 45-70) so its easier not to fire this one...i just thought i would put it away for the grandkids one of these days, and want to keep it in original condition..

thanks for all the advice......BAP
