appraisal

I inherited as crescent shotgun that is listed in the blue book as a prototype with no way to calculate the value. Does anyone know of how I can get it appraised?

My guess is that a prototype, being one of a kind, is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.  Just gotta find that someone.  Gosh, that sounds like a smart remark - surely not meant that way.  The only source of some expertise that I can think of off the top of my head, is an outfit in the Quad Cities that sells on consignment and auctions off many rare and unique collectors' items.  I believe it is called the Quad City Gun Auction.  You might try a Google search for them, or if you don't find them, I'll dig into it and get some contact information for you.  They are well known here where I live and most of my gun friends feel that they get pretty good prices for sellers - if that is what you might do.  Let me know if you need help getting in touch with them, if you are interested in doing so.  Maybe they can at least help you with some info.

I didn't take it as a smart remark at all cement man. I tried searching on the web and didn't come up with anything. A lot of quad cities matches but nothing about firearms. I thought I would use this .410 to get my son into rabbit hunting and just for the heck of it looked in the blue book and saw that there was no value listed. I don't even know about one of a kind as it said there was no way to tell how many were made and that it might be a prototype. It is in really great shape and I don't know if it's worth something or if I have a rare version of a cheap gun. I don't want to shoot it though untill I get some more information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll try searching some more and see what I can find.

Jim,
Sorry, I didn't have the name right.  Try this:   www.rockislandauction.com

They may be able to advise you or work with you on it.

You might watch gunbroker.com or gunsamerica.com and see if one similar is up for sale......and how much it brings......

Jim,
I hope these people can help in some way.  I have to visit that place someday, some of my local shooting buddies do a lot of business with them.  The put out a HUGE color ctalog before each auction.  Some of the guns and the prices are almost beyond description.  If I can help in any way, please let me know.  BTW, I grew up near Austin Blvd. and Roosevelt Road.  Went to Morton HS about 45 years ago.  Happy New Year, CM
