Barrel swap

Please forgive my lack of knowledge on this matter, but I guess I just need somebody to explain it to me. I'd like to pick up a Savage in .223 for my varmint hunting needs, but would also like to have a custom barrel made in .300 whisper. Since it's common to use the same action and magazine for the whisper, why can't I just have the extra barrel made and just swap them out when I decide to go from varmints to big game. Thanks in advance, people.

shure you can. After getting a gunsmith to turn a barrel in 300 wisper for you you can switch BBL's with a action wrench and a headspace guage.

 As for 300 wisper and big game it depends on what you call big game. The wisper has less power than either  a 30-30 or 7.62X39 cartrige. The wisper was made to have a suppresable M16 carbine not whack bambi. If your shooting under 100 yards and can get abullet that expands at wisper velocity your in buisness.

One of the nice things about the Savages is that most parts are available to individuals. Even things like bolt heads can be purchased. This allows changing calibers and even cartridge families.. May take a few more parts but there are a lot better hunting rounds than a Whisper..IMHO of course!!
