To answer your question, yes it can be done very easily, BUT, why bother with the .22-250 AI. You will not get enough extra case capisity to make it worth buying custom dies. If your after a hot rod why not go with a .22 - 243 or a .22 - 6mm. I just had a .22 - 6mm built and I`m pushing an 80 gr. bullet to alittle over 3,500 fps. right now, I`m just getting started seeing what it will do. I have a 1 in 8 twist in it for the 80 gr bullets and with you barrel you`ll probibly be limited to 69 gr. bullets, maybe 75`s.

The Bolt face is for 223. So no you can't. But you can have it rechamberd for 223 AI. Hey I have 22-250AI  Its "Bad to the Bone" dude. I can get 300FPS over the standard. I'm having a cut rifles 1 in 8 twist installed on it as we speak.

Iron Worker,
I don`t dout but what you are getting 300 fps. more with your AI, but if you are you are running alot more presure to do it. Using the standary 1/2 the percent of case volume increase you would get about 125 fps., but that does not work with over bore cases and the 250 is starting into that class. Also he could rechamber his .223 but would have to have the bolt face opened up of find another bolt.

I've got two 22-250AI one has a 1/14 twist other 1/12 both are good shooters.  Nosler and Sierra have reloading data for the 22-250AI.  You can average around 8/10% increase in velocity over a standard 22-250 with appr 10% more powder.  Some f-class shooters are using a 22-250AI, 1/8 twist barrel with 80gr bullets and that will be next on my list to build like Ironwork.  You didn't mention what twist the 223 barrel is or length?  I would want a barrel at least 24".  Alot  of good caliber are being use off the 22-250AI case like Weaver"s 20 cal and the 6mm.  Your gunsmith should have the right reamers for the 22-250AI.  Well good luck

Redding makes a 22-250ai die set that is quality at a reasonable cost.
You will love the 22-250ai!

Howdy,
I had a 22-250ai built about 14 years ago on a mdl 70 action in a bench style, great shooter. I've taken tons of varmints with it over the years. It likes 60grs best. its not the fastest, not the most powerful but a fun cartridge that does the trick.
Yes, Redding makes the dies, that's what I use. After the first sizing I only neck them for a snug fit.
I would definatley invest in another build! It's also nice to be able to shoot factory ammo in it!
