New 750 Remington
« on: December 09, 2006, 02:25:54 PM »
I was able to examine a 750 in .30-06 at BassPro Shop today. The metal finish was very nice, and it had the nicest wood I've seen on a production rifle in years. If I'd had $650.00, it would have gone home with me.  Has anyone shot one?

Many seem to have shot the new Remington 750 once, but very few seem to have shot it twice.

Have you ever read an unfavorable magazine article written about an advertiser?

Seems most gun rag writers lost their objectivity some time ago.  I very seldom see anything negative written about a gun in any of the gun rags.........hey, money talks!  My father always used to say believe none of what you hear (read), and half of what you see..........

Actually, I have.

The article I read said the the gun functioned perfectly, and shot a 1 5/8" group at 100 yards with factory ammo.

I bought a 750 in 35 Whelen back in the spring.  It was the first one I ever laid eyes on, and the looks just punched my buttons.
I have shot it several hundred times, getting close to 1,000 rounds through it.  All handloads, 225 & 250 grain bullets, most over a chronograph & grouping for accuracy.  The rifle has not been difficult to get along with. I have yet to find a bullet it hates, but does seem to like the Hot Core 250 grain and the 225 grain Partition.  Ditto for powders,  I use 4064, RL15 & 4320 for the most part.  Did get som nice groups with 748, but they were hotter than I thought they should be.
Fixing to see how it does with 200 grain bullets over the next week or so.  My old 700 Classic did a great job on several whitetails with the 200 gr Hornady Spire Point and there is a good chance we will be allowed to use a rifle for the fall 2007 season here in the southern tier of NY.
Remington assembled a rifle in the 750 that is a very soft shooter, it is far less jumpy than the model 7 in 308.  So far, no feeding/cycling problems.  Also worth mentioning, is that it does not seem to be real demanding as far as cleaning.  Found I was cleaning far more often than necessary in the early days.  Net: my confidence is growing with this rifle.  I took it on a moose hunt back in Sept., and it did it job just like it was supposed to. :)
Only real complaint, the R engraved on the forearm wood.  Makes me think I should change my name to something that starts with a R.
I have not seen any real "in depth" articles on this mode riflle.  Have you?  Where & when?

Yes, I have a rem 750 and shot abut 200 rds in it and it had to be sent back to the factory due to jamming.   My new scope and mount would not zero in .  It was shooting 16" low .  Called the factory and they took it back and worked it over and fixed the jamming problem and gave me extra clip, was nice.  It still did not zero in the scope and ended up buy a burrs scope ring set with 20/1000 shims to bring it into alinment.  I did not like that part but it shoots very well, feels like a great rifle, shoulders fast and your right on target .  Its in the 35 cal Wheln.   It is a beautiful wood stock and is a eye catcher for sure.  Cost me nothing for the repairs .  Just took it to a local sporting goods store and they sent it off for me and it took 4 weeks  for the return.
Just wanted to let you all know what happen to me on this one.  I am still going to call the factory and talk about the shim part I feel it should not be needed.  All this just happened by the way.

Ok, Up date on the scope issue mounting .  The whole problem was with the weaver scope base mounts.  It would not zero in, would shoot 13" low.  After switching to a cabela's version of the 7400 and 7600 Rem type it sighted in great.   This base mount is about  3/4 " longer and some what thincker.  It does the job nicely.   So dont use the weaver scope base mounts on the  Rem 750.  I really like how this gun shoots with very little recoil for a big boar gun.
Have a good day!

Hey RRey......... How's you gun shoot now? I own a 30-06 rem 750 and it want reload eather. I've took it to gander mt to have it repaired. I picked it up last week and still I'm having the same problems, It will not reload... I love the gun and I've got it 0ed in but its 1 shot at a time for now. Sometimes when the gun is cold I can get a second shot off but never a 3nd. Sometimes it jams and sometimes it kicks the used one out but will not pop the next shot up in the chamber. Rem wants me to send it back to them but I don't want to have to take the scope off like there asking me too.... Would like to hear from someone with a 30-06. Richard@2faroffroad.com
