Hardcast bullets

I have been following the "lighter bullets" topic with interest.  The discussion moved to hardcast bullets and was very helpful.  I shoot a SRH 9 1/2 44 mag and am wondering where you find these bullets.  Are they "roll your own"?  Do the major bullet manufacturers make them.  I am interested in the 250s.  What powder do you put behind them to get 1100 to 1200 fps?

I've shot cast performance bullets with pretty good success.  You can also try www.pennbullets.com.  They make good bullets, but not the LBT style that are so popular.

Oregon trail makes a good silver/lead hard cast bullet. I use then in my .45 colt.

Northeast bullets in Maine will put 1000 hard cast 44cal. 240gr all sized, lubed, and ready to load, on your doorstep for $50.00.  I shoot mine from a 7 1/2 in barrel sbh with 10 gr of unique and it is a lot of fun.  I haven;t cronographed yet but I am guessing around 1100 fps.

Guess may be the wrong choice of words.   I assume the velocity listed in my manuals and the barrel length are somewhat within reason.  It is still a guess at best until I run it across the chronograph.

Seldom have I been content with bullets I've purchased.  Either they're the wrong alloy, sized wrong, or lubed wrong.  Most of them I've tried leaded, too.  When I mould my own I can control the design, alloy, size, and bullet lube.  My .44 Contender hunting loads run near 1600 FPS and don't lead at all using a #2 alloy sized .001 over groove diameter and propelled by either 2400 or H110.  I prefer gas checks.

In my experience gas checks go a long way towards reducing leading.

AA#5 proves to be very uniform. I get 1185fps out of a 7.5" revolver and 280's.
