I haven`t seen any around here since the crops were planted last spring. If it ever stops raining around here and the farmers can get the crops off I`ll be spending some time looking for them. I have been watching the fields that are off, but I have a hard time finding them till abt. all the crops are off around here.

It might be a little differnt calling around here this year.the news paper said today, that this is the forth wettest year since records were kept.the other three were back in the 40's & 50's..the grass and weeds have grown to southeastern heights. going to be harder to see them coming in some of the better areas.but their food supply seems to be great.rabbit galore, even quail in numbers I have not seen since the 80's.and the gophers.those dang thing are taken over.and those ole coyotes love waiting by their holes for one to start excavating. My son made the rifle team in rotc and will be out of town this weekend.saturday those  coyotes will be called.think I'll give the ole .17 remington a work out along with the ole H&K super 90 stoked with 4 buck..report to follow..

went out yesterday afternoon.late start,so could not go long, sun was going down fast.I made four sets/stands. the 1st one I was up high(not that high but above every thing.)as I said in another post.we have had rain in amounts that have not been seen for a very long time. That means the weeds and vegitation has grown to tropical heights.
I started calling and within 13 minutes this small a gold  females shows her self.she is walking very fast to me.she still is out there aways.and I keep losing her in the vegitation.I could not believe how fast she could cover an area just walking.every time I saw her she was way away from the last place I had seen her.I could have stopped her.but she would probably of stopped where I could not see her, was kinda thick.she came into under 100 yards.I had the ole H&K 630 with me.I barked she gave me 1/2 of her to see.then the 630 went off.gaaaads I need to spend waaaaay more time at the range.again.I missed.that dang ole  coyote fever struck me.On the 1st set up and call for the 06/07 season.my head in hung in shame.I made two more sets in spots that I thought would be a lot of action.16 minutes nothing but some hawks coming overto see what was going on.I made my last set and saw tracks and a cotten tail that had been eaten on the way to the set.just the guts and back feet were left in what seemed to be a neat little pile.Dont think it was a coyote..maybe a hawk.
I statred calling the cotten tail dying song.and at 14 minutes this big ole male came runnuin into the center of things.he was 50 yards out and I stopped him in his tracks.he looked right at me broad side.I all ready had the H&K super 90 shouldered with a 3"mag 4 buck in the chamber.whack he turned like he was going to run.well I let a load of 3" 1buck go his direction.that was it.I called for 2 more minutes are so and called it a day.he was a nice young healthy male very dark in color..

Glanceblamm: (whistles softly)
You are rubbing it in pretty badly since I have 0 shots, 0 Ki-oats, and 0 hunts. It sure does make me want to  go though. It will be soon but after our first (3 day) deer season.
2006 regulations have added (hunting around the Clock) time for the Coyotes that extends past the Red/Gray Fox season instead of to the end of it. The regulations also say (for the first time) dont be shooting any Wolves as they do not pose a threat to humans or domestic animals. ::)
They posted pictures so I could tell the difference. ::)

They are (grouping up) around here and have been extremely vocal like Kyote was saying as they are virtually howling at all points of the compass. Should be a good year, doesnt make sense though as I thought that I got them all last year. ;)

Sorry, I didn't know that glanceblamm. The reason I don't miss to much is I have a shooting rest on top of my campershell that I shoot coyotes from. I can sit down in my warm camper and watch out the top 360 degrees as I'm drinking coffee. When I see a coyote coming I make my little secert sound...it stops and dies, that simple. :) I use to hunt big game, but no more. I only hunt predators, been that way for years and I don't see it changing. ;)

No, she had a nice tail.  I should have posed her better for the pic.  Tail was just hidden.

My 25/06 load is a 100 gr bullet (Sierra #1620) doing 2800 fps.  I have a slow barrel, but it's accurate.  Was pretty fur friendly at the range I shot her.

way to go guys.nice looking coyotes.
My son and I went  11/26/06 sunday, left early and made 8 sets with no luck, every thing was great sun, wind all going for us.Had a couple howl at us after I started calling.but could not interest them into coming in.After the 8th set.I said to the boy child we will not be skunked,so off we went in search of a spot where the boy child could get some trigger time in. we found this nice spot.looked like a spot where no one would even think of trying.he sat to my left and below me.10 minutes into the call and a big male came in from the right.he had not seen it as yet.as the yote enterd the kill zone.I said coyote coming in on the right shoot him.(well, the plan was for him to get ready on the yote and I was to stop him with the secert stopping call)soon as I said shoot him, the boy went from sitting in to an unorthodox prone landing on his right elbow,BANG, 75 yards out the yote was allmost cut in half.I never saw him bolt another round into the chamber.he did it that fast.his second yote.he was using the ole truck gun..M-600 .308 using a sierra 110gr HP varmiter with 39.9grs of RL7 below it.not a fur saving round..the boy child brought a tear to my eye..I let him drive us home..he was proud of himself..

Was elk hunting in NE Oregon on 8 November when we walked up (100 yds) on a coyote eating on a several day old elk.  Since i had already tagged out I wasn't carrying a rifle (had the Ruger NMFT .44 out though).  My hunting partner shot the coyote and when we walked up we found he got two for the price of one! Turned out to be a pair standing side by side and he got them both with one shot!

WOW-- Larry Gibson ,

I've watched randy andersons videos and there are quite a few opportunities to get doubles ,although i don't seem to get them lined up too often. As a matter a fact i think i mildly black-out when i spot them sometimes ;D..
Going to get cracking soon here still waiting for it to cool down.Mike

coyote report for 12/03/06

my son and I went out and made 6 sets, saw 4 coyotes and shot 1.
we were up on a small hill and my son who just turned 14  several months back is the shooter on all the sets.I try and put him in the gooder spots.
bout 11 minutes in to the call a dog came in from our right.he was on the right.and I said here come one.instead of looking with his eyes he moved his head.the ole dog spotted that movement and froze behind a bush.he shot at him 40 yards out with the 12ga.and the dog ran off.we tracked in case of a bad hit.no splaying are blood so we went to the next set.
set up in a dry lookin pond bed.sat on the side and started calling and a dog woke up that was under a bush 7o yards out and stood behind it barking a bark I have never heard before.I had my .17 remington with me and put the cross hairs on the neck right behind it's head.bang and he ran off.I think I hit a twig and deflected the bullet..he he he..
so off we went to the next set.I put the boy child in good cover and in a spot I thought would be great.calling right into a gentle breeze open counrty for miles.3 minutes into the call and coming from behind the boy child two dogs come out less then 30 yards just to his right.he raised the shotgun.and the dogs bolted and started running away from us.why he did not shoot????I put the cross hairs on the larger one a little high on the shoulder and waited untill it crested this little dune and soon as it was on top, I shot.as- over tea kettle he went and slide down 15 yards in the sand.that little caliber makes an impressive little entry hole and no exit as yet.end of report.....

Are there any coyote hunters in the State of Washington that would like to teach a "coyote newbie" the proper way to hunt in the field?  I am available 7-days a week and am willing to travel.

Thanks,

Jay

Got this little gal during bow season. She happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was my longest bow kill to date. 50 yards! Heck....a blind squirrel finds a nut every now amd then.
