Generally speaking the occurrence of color phase bears is higher the further west you go; that being said, you should still have a good chance in the Pine Falls area.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.  Rev

I'm going to look stupid but so be it.

I'm not following the term "brown phase bear".

Is it what we refer to as "cinnamon" black bear in MN? How many color phases are there?

I did see a patchwork cinnamon/black bear once but he eluded me when we went after him. At that time I was looking for a rug and he had "rug" written all over him.

They can range from chocolate brown to cinnamon to almost blonde.  Twenty years ago I killed one in Colorado that was a true cinnamon color, about like a golden retriever.  Last year In Manitoba I watched a bear that was much darker, what I would call chocolate brown.  This bear was only about 150 pounds so I didn't shoot her, but she sure was a pretty one.  Rev

Now it's coming back to me.

Isn't there what is called a "blue phase too?" Kind of a unique blue like color?

State of MN banned the shooting of "white" black bear.

Yes, the "blue bear" is also called a Glacier Bear and lives in isolated places in southeast AK, while the white bear is called the kermode bear and lives in coastal British Columbia.  Both are extremetly rare and are protected.  I would love to see one!  Rev

If you are going to Manitoba. Hunt around Riding Mt. Park. I've killed every color phase black bear you can imagine there. Even saw two white ones but they were to small to shoot.
