Need loads for .375 JDJ
« on: January 20, 2007, 02:07:07 PM »
Can't seem to find much data on the .375 JDJ, and none at all for rifles, any suggestions would be appreciated.

What are you looking for? I have two 375JDJ's pistol barrels and it is very easy to load. Reloading data can be found in Hornady manuals and SSK will send you their data sheet. Check out the flowing links.

Many thanks for the info. We have the Hornady book and the info JDJ sent with the dies which is mostly just a repeat of the Hornady data but it is all pretty much 4895 and H332 from 14 inch barrels, we're more interested in the 26" rifle since this round is pretty extreme for a handgun, but should be one heck of an elk rifle.

Joe,
The data for the short barrel is the same data for the longer barrel. Barrel length has no effect on the powder that produces highest velocities or pressure. The size of the cartridge and the weight of the bullet determine the best powder for any ammunition. When using undocumented data be sure to check it against manuals - there is a lot of DANGEROUS load data on the internet. Sierra can give you reliable data on most any cartridge and are happy to provide it regardless of the bullet you are using.
PaulS

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

I don't have a 375 JDJ but my Accurate Arms manuel number two has data for the 375 JDJ. I'm not sure how it compairs to the Hornady data. It is in the handgun data but I'm guessing all loads will be listed that way.

Yep, that does seem to be the case. I suppose that as a rough guide we can just add about 250 fps to the velocities taken from 14" barrels as a rough estimate for the 26" barrel. We'll need to do some chronograph work and post the real results from a 26" barrel. Actually though, I don't think it's going to be any really great improvement over the 375 winchester.
