243 superlite , need starting point

Ok guys i have a 243 superlite barrel coming and need some load data to get started , i know these barrels can be picky about how they shoot .

I have some h-4895 , IMR 4895 and IMR 4350 for powder , also have 85 and 100 gr bullets , can get other powder and bullets as needed . any ideas will work no matter how far in left field they are .

I am planing to match it with a 218 Bee barrel for a combo varmnent rig to keep in the truck .

please help .

Here's Howard NZ's load info, AR2217 is an equivilent to H1000 and most likely is the same powder since Hodgdon repacks a lot of ADI powders. Hodgdon shows H1000 in their 95gr and above 243 data.

i've been seeing how your .22-250 is going.   seems you are doing alright with that one.   good for you.

with a superlite barrel i'd stick to lightweight bullets.   that's because i'd expect less 'barrel whip' to be developed by the lighter bullets and because of what 'boots' obermeyer says about heavier bullets and heavier charges of slower powders causing barrel erosion.   the .243 is so overbore that i'd definitely follow his advice.    last summer my buddy's .243 in Model 700 BDL (blued) heated up so quickly from three shots with 100 gr' Sierra's that the barrel was too hot to touch!

i'd stick with 85 gr' bullets and lighter for everything out of the .243 through large whitetail/mule deer and caribou.     i'd use Rem' brass which usually is heavier, and i'd use one of your 4895 propellants with a CCI-200 (standard, large rifle primer) behind that bullet.   cci-200's should be good with any single-based, stick powder up through a 'speed' of approx' IMR's 4320.

Point #1-They are finicky.Never expect accuracy from the first round.They like a dirty bore.

Point#3-After trying for CONSISTENT accuracy for 5 years I sold mine.

This will be my first 243 and i was wondering about the heaver bullets , may get some Sierra 55s and 70s to try .

my buddy wanted a .243 in that Model 700....and couldn't take no for an answer.   so i put together some loads for him using H-414 and AA-xmr4350 with those 100 gr' Sierra boat tails before he got into reloading himself.   they were Extremely accurate....but extremely hot to the touch as well!   i told him he'd be eating that barrel up.   i bought him some 70 gr' Hornady spire points for Christmas for that Remington.   i did that because of what was said in 'boots' interview, and because they approximate the sectional density of the 60 gr' spire point that kills large whitetails so well out of a .223 and a .22-250.
