Is this a good deal?
« on: January 01, 2007, 08:19:35 AM »
Need some advice. Shopping for handirifle in 243 WIN today at Cabela's. But they have a used 223 REM, regular barrel, plain stocks set, with scope base and hammer ext. for $200 has an NW serial # so it is practically new.  Versus a brand new 243 WIN, plain stock set for $219 not sure if hammer ext. and scope base are included. I can use a $20 gift card so they will cost the same to me if the hammer ext and scope base are included in the deal.  If I get either one I still will be looking for a 20 ga. barrel to complete this set up and I already have a good scope I can put on it.

I haven't shopped around at local gun shops yet or pawn shops either so I don't know if there is a better deal in my town or not.

Any feedback is welcome.

All new H&R NEF rifles come with a scope rail and hammer extension if they aren't iron sighted. Either one is priced about right, you probably won't find em any cheaper elsewhere. If you don't have any choice as to caliber, check em over good individually, make sure the actions are tight preferablly without the forend on if they're let ya do that, check the crowns, triggers.....take the best looking, feeling one.....or just buy em both!!!! ;D

I can tell you that here in southern Michigan I can buy them from Gander Mtn for $209. almost anytime...when I can FIND ONE! They occationally offer $20. off cards w/puchase over $100. which means $189. + tax....hope this helps ya. Ken    I'd probably buy 'em both if everything is there!

thanks guys for the quick replies.

I thought the new in the box one for the money minus the $20 gift card is my best deal. they also had a used .25-06 REM in ultra with blonde stock for $299 but it was an older gun HK ser. number so it wouldn't be as flexible for me in terms of adding barrels. Plus it was $299 which was more than I wanted to spend. :D

I will check out local gun shops this week and if nothing else comes up will go to Cabelas since the gift card expires next Monday.  There is one more deal on a used one I have pending but don't know the ser. number of the rifle yet to see if its worth it.

Thanks.
