Barrel Length

I am in the planning stages of building a DG rifle in 9.3x62 and need your thoughts on barrel length. This will be built on a Charles Daly LH action, either a Douglas or Shilen barrel and a black laminate stock. What are your suggestions? Thanks

The trend these days seems to be for barrels of 22 inches.  I however prefer a 24 inch tube even for non magnum calibers.  I'm 6'2 so the extra length is of no concern to me, but i do like the swinging charictoristics and the increased velocity never hurt anyone.  By the way, thats an awsome caliber to be building a rifle on.  My congrats, and keep us posted on the progress!

Optimum barrel length should equal the burning rate of the weight of powder you will be using.

I always felt you want enough barrel so almost ALL powder is burned while the bullet is still in the barrel.

Barrel length is important, but powder burn rate is the only thing that will make it work to your advantage.

Tons of Military rifles were made in 24 and 26 inch lengths.  Not only for accuracy, but for burning up the powder too.
