looking for new huntsman
« on: December 31, 2006, 06:33:17 AM »
Hey all, happy new year. I have been looking on the different major stores websites(cabela's, dicks, gander mountain) and can't find any of them selling new Huntsman. Are they still being produced? H&R doesn't show them on their website, and I did not see them on NEF either. Where can I find a new one, I have to ship thru FFL or can they be ordered through a local gun shop? Thanks for the help.

They're no longer made, but the 26" barrels can be ordered in the accessory barrel program if you have a frame to send in for fitting. The Sidekick has replaced it apparently. :-\

If you do find a Huntsman it does qualify as a firearm so the FFL is required to purchase other than over the counter and that is dependent on your state laws. In Arizona I just had to fill out the yellow paper and with my concealed license I was automatically approved. The reason is that a shotgun barrel can be fitted to the Huntsman but not to the Sidekick which can be purchased like any other muzzleloader.

FYI,  the ATF changed the color of the ATF 4473 from yellow to white in July 2005, FWIW. ;)

My store must be using old forms. I bought the Huntsman used from a local gun shop. Actually traded a Pursuit LT for the Huntsman straight across. Good deal for me, bad deal for the shop. The pursuit had a terrible trigger.
