I've come to the Dark Side :)
« on: January 04, 2007, 04:08:27 PM »
I've owned a contender in .223 for years, love it.  Today, I made the jump :)  I purchased a stainless 15" Encore in 460 S&W.  I had to order it as I live in the middle of nowhere..so it'll be awhile..But man am I psyched!

I picked up a box of 454, 460, and two of the 45LC...I can't wait!

Any recommendations before I drop the hammer a few times?

In the line of scopes what would you recommend?  Mounts?

Oh!!!  I can't wait!

Wear gloves and PRAY!

Mounts?

Very Strong!

Seriously, congrats, that will be a handful.

This is the very set-up I plan on getting this year. With the exeption of a bullberry barrel. I think I will go with a burris 2-7x32. I hope to hear a range report when you get yours shooting. Congrats on a fine handgun.

Recoil is not that bad in my opinion, but shooting gloves help. Scope mounts and rings I use Warne all steel and no quick release rings. My scope is a Bushnell Trophy 2 X 6 X 32 and has over 2000 rounds down the tube and not one problem.

Take off those sunglasses & follow the light!  Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the board. Lots of good folks here & some great advice whenever you ask for it. ;D

I so badly wanted to buy the frame and get a Bullberry barrel over stock, but for now money is tight-ish, so I decided to wait.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

One of the first things I was looking into was getting a new Forend/Grip.  I plan to do a lot of plinking as well as some longer range play, so I wanted to get a forend that has a wide base that's flat..but my attempted searches online have come up empty.  I'm contemplating doing my own forend..My old man has gotten pretty good at working with wood, like to see if we could come up with something, BUT in the event that fails, any links to a site with some decently priced forends like I'm wanting?

Also, in between shooting the shorter chamberings, when going to the 460 I need to aggresively clean out the chamber right?  Someone on another forum said I could not use lead cased bullets, and to stay with only jacketed stuff when playing...any thoughts on that?

PS, I love this site..I spent a few days reading all the way back to Dec '05 before I made my purchase.  My next barrel is going to be for .308, then more than likely a 45-70.

All I shoot is hard cast gas checked bullets in my 460 Mag. Not a probem at all.

Anybody know of any sites that have grips and forends, custom or semi custom?
