What Bait or Lure Do You.............
« on: April 21, 2003, 10:18:15 AM »
Ok Skipper, time to get personal AGAIN.  What bait or lure do you have stashed away that you drag out when you really want to catch a fish.  Me, I'm a spinnerbait man but when I really need to catch a bass I tie on a Go Getter, a chrome and white feathered jig that I modify by removing lead from inside the jig so it dances around in a crazy fashion.  Come on guys, time to let go of a secret.  Lawdog

I'm not ashamed of my confidence lure - 3/8 oz. rubber skirted jig tipped w/a pork frog, black of course! It helps when you know the guy who makes 'em!! Between this lure, my skitter pop, and white spinnerbait(s), there's not much room in the boat for much else.

speaking of discontinued Rebel's..I sorely missed the Fastrac Rebel minnow..they only offer it in a broken back version in salmon colors now.  I am down to one..mainly cause the smallmouths and stripers have taken them all away!I fish alot in the tailrace below Wilson Dam in NW Alabama and this is the only minnow type lure that will not roll over and stay on top in swift water.  One can crank them as fast as they want and they will track true.  They are my go to lure when I want a good smallie or maybe a hybrid.

I don't fish for $$ but I can hang in there here's a few of my hot baits that work in CT.

1. Manns crankbait size baby1 in crawdadbrown with crawfish scent
2. Manns 1/8oz Hp classic spinnerbait white/single gold colorado blade with uncle josh 3/8x4" white pork trailer with the Vee cut 1" so it looks more like it is swimming/movement with YUM shad scent.
3. Rapala 2 3/4" orginal floater in "blue" with baitmatebass scent
4. Mepps inline Anglia #2 and #3 silver w/gray tail with baitmatebass scent.
5. Mepps XD3 silver dressed w/baitmatebass scent
6. BassProShops topnocker color #25 w/baitmatebass scent
7. Manns loudmouth crankbait in firetiger w/baitmatebass scent
8. panther martin fly  silver/yellow fly w/baitmatebass scent
9. Rebel Big Claw crawfish in green w/crawfish scent
10. Joesflies 1/4oz size in firetiger/glotiger/blackgnat/yellowmellow w/yum shad scent and the short striker sreies too.

These are just a few that i catch fish on and work great.  I like the inline spinners the best for results most of the time but the patterns do change.       BigBill

When the fishing is tough-I tie on a Kalin's 4 inch grub in either smoke or watermelon pepper. Either fish it texas rigged or with a grub jig head. Also like the fluke soft jerkbaits that my sponsor makes and sells....John
