another handi-quick ?
« on: January 05, 2007, 05:28:33 PM »
stopped by a ole buddys house today, i had been deer huntining all morning, i had not seen him in about a year, we went out to his shop, his rifle was on table, we talked about hunting-guns, he opened the gun safe full of guns, first thing i saw was 4 handi rifles scoped and rigged out, he said got into handi's a few years ago,he had a 223,308,30-06, and 45/70, a great line-up of handis,we did some trading i came home with the 308 cal handi rifle, its a N serial number made in 1999, looks like new great wood with a schnable forend, i shot it this evening at 100 yds goods groups with hornady custom 150 gr btsp, my question is it has a little left to right movement when barrel is closed no up-down, what should i check, the gun looks like new and shoots great, just a little left to right play when closed, thanks ro.

If it shoots good enough for ya, just shoot it, won't hurt anything, but they usually aren't real consistent if they're very loose. You might also try it on your other frame(s), might lock up good for ya!!  It means the pivot is worn enough or hammered to allow it to be loose. I would contact H&R and ask that it be repaired unless you want to do the repair yourself using the barrel fitting instructions. You can try a temp shim to see how well it works. The latch may also need some alteration. See the barrel fitting instructions in the FAQ. ;)
