Holster Help
« on: December 31, 2006, 02:38:31 PM »
I need a flap holster for my S&W 625 Mountain Gun.  I like the Kramer Explorer the best, but it's pretty expensive.  El Paso Saddlery makes one, but I hear rumblings about their quality and delivery times.  A.E. Nelson makes one, but I know nothing about their products.  Anyone else make one that I'm missing?  I'd go with Simply Rugged but I don't care for the swivel top style.  Maybe I'll just go with their Sour Dough.

I can't answer your exact question, but I think I can contribute something. I'm a very small custom holster dealer. I'm not trying to do any business here and I don't even rep anyone who makes a flap holster, so I'm totally objective. BTW, I have no experience whatsoever with any flap holsters.

I ordered a "Tom Threeperson's" holster for my custom single action from El Paso about 6 months ago. It was pretty standard with basketweave stamping. The holster arrived exactly when promised, but the retention strap was a bit short. My gun is a custom so I wasn't surprised that it wasn't exact. They were very polite when I called and told me to send it right in, which I did and to my surprise I had it back in two weeks, fixed perfectly. The workmanship is very good, not a bad stitch anywhere, and I would order again. Keep in mind that I'm a holster seller myself and hold the provider to a higher standard. I was satisfied.

Another holster for a revolver that I've been very happy with was one from Mernickle Holsters. Mine is the model recommended by JT, and it doesn't have a flap. They DO offer a flap model however, listed under Field Holsters. No problems of any type here either...Tom

I've never heard anything bad about their quality (I own 5 holsters, several belts, and mag pouches) They can be a little slow on delievery, but they tell you that up front.

I ordered the Sourdough from Simply Rugged.  Rod is a real outdoorsman, and understands what is required for heavy duty outdoor use.

Swampman, you will like the sourdough from Simply Rugged.  Rob made me one for a USFA single action, with the 3 slots so it could be used cross draw also. It's really sturdy, and the revolver sits deep in the holster and is protected real well.
I've been breaking it in for a couple of months now, I'm really happy with this holster. It's a nice outdoor all around rig.
You'll like it I'm sure.
