Welcome to GBO!!  As to your ?, I tried right after Encore came out. I couldn't find a barrel maker to do it. It is just more(casehead) than the action will stand, when or if you run pressure up.  Now considering your post on BIG BORE. The 356 is fine, 35-30 doesn't have the capacity. A 35-444 is better, or a 35-40 KragAI. Reallistically the two are about the same with stength going in the 444 case, simplicity in favor of the Krag case. Personally, I would rather neck up than down. It eliminates the possibility of having, too turn the necks. In a 20" barrel, these case capacities are about perfect. Either one of the two, would make a good thumper! :D onesonek

thanks for the reply. I think I'll go with the 356. It will be simple, and  I can spend more time hunting .

Hmm, why would a barrel maker not do a .35/.348Win? I've got a friend with a .348Winchester Improved and another with a .500Alaskan.  I'm considering a .411/.348Winchester and three of the custom barrel makers said they'd do it.

I haven't done the .356Winchester yet, but I like my .307Winchester Encore. One could also go to the .358Winchester if you really didn't need a rim. RKBA!

I'll try to explain from what I know, or how it was explained to for what I didn't know. First off I couldn't find anything on a 411-348, but the 348 operates at 35-36000 cup as should the Improved version. Also the 50 Alaskan is the same, if not slightly less pressure. These will not create problems in the Encore. Now  with wildcats with no data to go by, one tends too look at the case capacity possible load potential. The 348 case could easily be loaded 50,000 cup, but it would be too much for the Encore. Reguardless of bullet diameter. My smith(s) would not do a round without substainial load data to back them in a liability situation. Most did  not worry so much, as the rifle comming apart, but the stretching and flexing destroying accuracy(along with their reputaion) first. That's why most of them dropped the 300WSM from their lines. It' is to much for the Encore. And while I have not checked it, I don't believe there would be much difference in case capacity between a 300 WSM and a 348 IMP. I would suspect the 348 to be little larger. It's the large casehead  thing again!!! :D

I had Mr. Ackley rebored a Siam Mauser to .35/.348 Win Ackley Imp. Since this is so old I will keep this short. I have, in the bolt action, loaded to "starting loads" for the .358 Norma Magnum in commercial manuals WITHOUT pressure sign that I find unacceptable or even interesting. Your gun, YOUR RISK... Got 3 inch groups, easy, with military sights (poor) and me shooting (no big help)... luck.
