 Is it possible to rebarrel the Marlin Model 60 to a different caliber?

While anything is possible I don't recall Marlin's method for securing the barrel to the reciever as flexible as Ruger's with the 10-22.  My guess is that it would be expensive, and most likely not for the home gunsmith.  I could be wrong but if it were easy there would be a bunch of barrels listed for the Model 60 like there are for the 10-22.

A conversion to .17HM2 would be rather straight forward....

have the original barrel re-ligned to .17hm2, and chambered....
Cost ~$100

Add a little extra weight to the bolt to keep the timing right (custom bolt handle?)

You should be good to go, assuming the tubular magazine fillied with pointed bullets doesn't pose and problems (shouldn't, there are models out there).
