LBT .45 in a Ruger Bisley-help!!!

:?: Hi Lloyd,I have one for you and other knowledgeable shooters!What is the heaviest LBT design that will fit in the .45 Long Colt Ruger Bisley?I am unsure as to WFN or the LFN profile design to settle upon.What would you advise on this,my main purpose is whitetails,personnal defense and plinking.Thank you Friends,Jeff.

thats hard to say the biggest I shoot is the 350lfngc from Rob Applegate. I also shoot alot of the ballistic cast 320lfns and 330 lbtswc These all work fine in my .45 rugers. I know that when I try to use the lee 300rf and seat on the second crimp grove they wont chamber. I have used the lbt 365 grain lfn a little and they work too. I would say that your wasting your time in the .45 with bullets heavier then 350. They just start taking up to much powder space.

ps if you want my choise for bullet design Ill take a keith everytime. They have just seemed to be easier to get accuracy with and they do well on game. Next would be the lfn with the wfn a very distant third.

Speaking of which, I just purchased a new Ruger Bisley, stainless .45 with a 5.5 inch barrel, roll engraved non-fluted cylinder!  It's a beaut.  Looking to work up some loads for it.  Any advice?

Try Lil'Gun with cast bullets over 300 gr Dan, it's a great combo. I've driven 350gr Keiths to 1,200 fps, 325gr Keiths to 1,300+, 300 gr LFN to 1,300+. all from my 5.5" Bisley.

But a good general purpose load is 24.0 gr of H110 under a 270 gr Keith. That does 1,100 fps on the nose in my Bisley, or 13.5 gr of Blue Dot for 1,050 fps. Both very accurate and easy to shoot.

I loaded 300 grain Cast Performance LFNGC over 15.5 grains of 2400. According to the Speer manual velocity should be around 1100 fps. Just tested them out today in a 7 1/2" Bisley, and they shoot great. I might not have to look any further for a whitetail and hog load. This load also works real well with 250 grain bullets. Also put a Pro Spring kit in it today. The trigger is much better.

One thing is the correct sizing of the extra long LBT.  My Bisley 45 Colt has tight throats and some bullets won't fit well with the exposed long nose unless sized to fit.  Some are just so small that that I have taken emory cloth and went around the boat .  The LFN was designed for the 45 colt. I have had great experience with the 300 and the 325 LFN.  Good accuracy.  H110 had been the powder of choice.  Lil gun has worked so far well.  265 WFN has been another one of my favorites.

Dan, check the throats of your Bisley. Alot of Rugers are undersized and opening them up will help reduce leading and improve accuracy. It's a small investment that alot of posters speak highly of.
