removing case lube?

how is the best way to get the sizing oil off of cases? will tumbleing get it off or is there a better way.

15-20 minutes in the tumbler will do a fine job. You might want to keep a seperate tub of media for this purpose. I use media that has lost its cleaning/polishing ability due to use.

I've used a plastic dish pan and colander from the dollar store. Just hot tap water and a little dish soap, in the dish pan, cuts alot of the grease/lube off the cases. I've taken the colander, and opened up the slots with my Dremel. So when I get done tumbling the brass, I dump the media/brass out of the tumbler, into the colander, and shake.  The media ends up in the dish pan, and brass in the colander. And a bunch cheaper than the commercial seperator that Dillion makes.-gypsyman

Welll, I like to tumble before I size and hate to contaminate the media with size lube afterwards.    For less than about 100 rounds or so, each lube type gets this ...

For the old greasy lubes (like STP) -  I avoid them these days - I used a cloth dampened with paint thinner/mineral spirits.  It cuts the lub quickly and evaporates fast.

For water solable types (Lee, etc.) I use a cloth dampened with water or rubbing alcohol.

For the waxes (Imperial, etc.) I just dry wipe the loaded ammo as I put it in a box.

For larger runs I do use the tumbler and live with the residue it leaves.

I use plain old lighter fluid,used on a rag or just paper towels.I keep a can on loading bench for just that use.

I tumble before I size and I tumble after I size. Media isn't so expensive in my opinion.

I tumble, but for only abt 2 min. It doesn`t take much.

I use Hornady spray on lube.  I used to wipe with lighter fluid.  It removed lube but left the brass spotty.  Now I just tumble with walnut.  I have one hopper of walnut for this purpose and one hopper of RCBS? treated corncob media.

I mainly use the Hornady One Shot, tumble in walnut for 10-15 minutes takes care of it.

I tumble twice. Back from the range, the cases go into a more aggressive media to remove the dirt so it doesn't scratch my dies. After resizing and trimming, back into a seperate and milder media to remove the lube and to clean the primer pocket a bit. Tumbling time is based on how dirty and tarnished the brass is. Once the media starts clumping from lube, I replace it.
