homemade decoy for coyotes?

What kind of contraptions have you guys come up with and what success have you had with them? Been thinking about setting up something and not sure where to start so all ideas however wacky will be welcome.

Well there is no set pattern on a decoy, The main thing you are attempting to do is to divert the coyotes attention or any of the predatory game you are trying to call. There are a thousand things you can do that don't cost anything. For instance a piece of jack rabbit fur tied to a bush with a string attached to it back to where you are making your call, give it a wiggle once in a while. Some bird wings hanging from a branch will work. I have a store bought thing called a woozel that you place on a plastic stake, the woozel rotates during the entire time you are calling. Let your imagination loose and see what you can come up with. Thanks for your question and let us know how you make out, Good luck........Joe.........

I may use a few bird feathers together on a string tied to the branch- even a minor breeze would move them I would think.
My new gun needs some more range work then i will try it on the local coyotes!

Before these new quivvering contraptions I often tied a white rag on a sapling or a feather and let the wind whip it around. I tried a rabbit pelt for quite some time. I would put it on a sapling and have a string running to me and yank on it. A hawk stold him though. The last thing I was using was a weasel ball I got at a cracker barrel. That thing lasted for 5 or 6 years. It was just an oscillating ball with a coon tail on it. I had a few animals run away with him but they didn't seem to like the ball hitting them so they would turn it loose in a few seconds.

Turkey feathers,tied together on a peice of mono fishing line. Ues a swivle,and a 1/8 inch dowl to tie it to. Set it out about 100yds where you want the coyote to stop. The lighest wind will move it,and they will pick it up. I've shot them while they were trying to smell/bite it,works great.

I have a new contraption.  I take feeding bobble head turkey decoy and one of the kids stuffed rabbits and use a rabbit squeal call, I am trying to imitate a hawk killing a rabbit, that a coyote can steal easy, but I only have this turkey decoy, so that is what I use.

a bobble head turkey decoy is a turkey decoy that is made to look like a feeding turkey with a movable head and neck that moves up down and sideways as the wind blows, works great on turkeys, sometimes when there is a gentle breeze it really looks lifelike, and to me, at a distance kind of looks like a big red tail hawk tearing into a rabbit.  they also are now marketing a mojo (whirling wing) hawk decoy.  You can buy the turkey decoy for about $19.
I thought of it because I was a falconer and flew redtails at rabbits.  It was great fun, except when hawk caught a rabbit, they really screamed, it was awfull.  Preditors know too. 
We used to joke that we would wish that on one of our reincarnated enemies, to be a rabbit with a hawk on it slow dying in the snow.  They just stand on screeming rabbit for a long time with that vise grip.  Gruesome.

The weasel tailed ball is just what it sounds like. It's  ball about the size of a tennis ball with what looks like a coon tail hooked to it, What makes the thing work is a heavy ball inside of it, I suspect it's a steel ball. Every time the ball moves just slightly the thing rings it's tail it switches it's tail, which looks like it is being killed. The little thing has eyes to make it more realistic......Joe......
