44 Man,

How do I go about placing an order?  Do you have a website from where I can choose a style of scrimshaw of other form of engraving or do I describe to you what I would like to have done?

Thanks,

Sorry, no website.  I've just been doing this for myself and my friends.  Looks like I'm going to have more friends!  Drop me an email or pm and I'll get with you.  Give me an idea what you would like, and I'll see what I can come up with.  Thanks for the kind words.  44 Man

What material are the grips made of? Where did you get them?

I picked up my Mag-na-port custom Ruger SBH today and if I'm gonna keep it for sure it needs a better looking set of grips than the laminated brown wood on it now. I'm thinking along the line of a set of white most likely fake ivory or maybe bone or stag grips. Gonna hafta be looking around to see just what I can come up with.

Bill i dont know where i picked that set up and dont know what they were made of. Ive never seen another set like it. There not real bone and not micarta and not plastic. they are pretty heavy. Heavier then any other white grips ive found. I wish i could find out and buy another set.If i had to take a guess id say there corian. Im  in the processes of buying some grips for my super blackhawk its a 4 5/8s round trigger guard gun. Ive picked up two differnt sets on ebay and both fitted like crap. the stainless ruger are a bitch to find grips to fit right. Ive got one more set from ebay comming and if i have to return them im going to buy a set of tru-ivorys and have them fitted. Ive seen there grips and there about as close to real ivory as you can find. They will fool about anybody. I know one way or the other there going to be white as its one of my favorite shooters now and its going to have to have the 44man touch done to it.

My new SBH is also the round trigger guard version. I really don't like the square ones at all. From what you're saying I guess I need to just plan on having someone fit the grips to it. Do you need to send only the grip frame for them to do that? The entire gun doesn't need to go does it?

I'll likely wind up with something white like an imitation ivory and scome scrimshaw on it would be nice. But then I really do like the looks of stag grips and that's still an option for me. Jim Hack has had some made from Giraffe bone I think and that looks pretty good and from what he says is as tough as anything. It might be knife handles he had made from it rather than grips but I can't recall.

Nope. I did NOT say I bought a Ruger. I WON it at a handgun hunt held at White Oak Plantation last month. You can read the full story of the hunt on the Handgun Hunting Forum.

ya bill thats about he gist of it. Ive just had to many problems with over the counter grip fit on the stainless rugers. tru-ivory is a fairly inexpensive option but still not cheap http://www.truivory.com/ Giraffe bone is beautiful. Ive got a couple knives done in it and have seen some of scott Kolars girafee grips and there really something but not cheap. Stag (sambar not elk) is about my favorite grip material but its got dammed near as expensive as ivory. For the price of stag or giraffe anymore you can have trueivorys fitted and scrimshawed and still have a few bucks left over.

Lloyd, I thought that pair of grips of yours I just worked on might have been tru-ivory.  They certainly were not the regular polymer but they have no identifying logos on the back.  They had a little translucent look to them.  I like them very much.  And while your grips were harder than regular polymer, I don't believe they were corian.  From what I have read, I got the impression that corian is an extremely hard grip material.  I have not had your trouble getting Ruger grips to fit.  Because Ruger investment casts all their grip frames, they should be very uniform, unlike the Colt style.  I have heard that tru-ivory grips were top of the line.  44 Man

I'm honored that you enjoy my work.  I'd be happy to pretty up any grips you boys might want to send me!  Thanks again.

my problem hasnt been with grips not fitting blued guns its the stainless ones that give me fits and only the vaqueors and blackhawks not the bisleys. What ive found is most of the grips are cut for the blued frames and the stainless ones are a tad bigger. Id like to know where those grips came from myself as i like them too. They have the same cool feel that ivory has not the warmer plastic feel most synthetics have. I dont think they were tru-ivorys though as they usually have some colar streaks in them
