decoy detail
« on: January 10, 2007, 03:24:36 PM »
Good day gentleman, Have been trying to make my own decoy for yote calling out of a remote controlled turtle toy that all legs and the head move. how detailed does a decoy need to be? I have some cloth that is pretty close to the color of a rabbit and was going to cover the decoy in that . Will it work ? I just dont know if a coyote is going to be watching just the motion or if he is looking for things like the ears and exact coloring. Thanks  and good shooting to all.....Bill

Hello Bill

I think the movement is the most important part of the program, This does two things it distract the coyote from you which allows a little slack time to get into position to shoot. Let me know how it works, Thanks........Joe..........

I think that they work well period but think that the movement will be great. Some of the older, warier coyotes may come to the edge but hang up there just out of sight unless they see something.
My own is simply a great horned owl decoy that is mounted to a pipehanger with an attached piece of allthread that is stuck into the ground
The cavity of the hanger is great for attaching some thin long strips of foam rubber with a little yarn and cotton attached that move well with the wind along as there is some wind!
Yours should work great.

Good day gentleman, forgot a few details, the turtles body is about 8 or 10 inches across and after some modification the legs are about 6 inches long. figure that should move grass and such pretty good also enough movement to catch and keep a critters attention....Good hunting and you all have a goodun...Bill
