I took this buck 10 miles East of Fredericksburg ,Texas on opening day. Our deer are not extremely large but I could not pass on this one. The shot was taken at 150 yards from my tripod stand which is set up along a wood line. The buck was out in open field at sunrise. This buck was shot with my 270 Remington.

The second picture is an Axis Buck I took last week just outside of Camp Wood, Texas. I shot this buck with my Marlin 1895GG 45/70 at 67 yards. The buck was with 6 other Axis and 3 whitetail does. I had to wait about 5 minutes to take a clean shot. Fortunately the buck turned out of the pack and head directly face on for a frontal shot.

Nice going, your freezer should be getting a bit full. I love the Campwood area. Do you own a place there or a lease? We've been looking at buying a retirement spot in that area, but prices keep going up..

My buddy has the place in the Camp Wood area. He has Whitetail, Axis, Hogs and Wild Sheep. I own the place in Fredericksburg where the Whitetail Buck in the picture was harvested. We have Whitetail and Axis and ocassionally Fallow. No hogs but I m glad we don't. We bought the place to eventually live on. We currently live in the DFW area. I would love to have something in Kerrville or even South Texas for larger deer. I was just bowhunting 23 miles NE of Laredo the past few days. The deer are big. We spotted several 140 class plus bucks. I was bow hunting and the ranch (lincoln ranch) had a 130 minimum. The monster bucks are a bit harder to bring in close. No feeders or perminent blinds. We seeded the areas we were hunting and used portable ground blinds. A couple more days and i think I would have brought one home. Although it was warm, the deer were hungry. It takes a couple of days for them to start hitting your corn.

I have 25 acres. Fortunately it hunts big because I am surrounded by wooded ranch land and the Perdenales Riiver. The deer typically tend to hang out on the property most of the time. The Axis mostly pass thru everyday back and forth from the river. No one in the immediate are protein feeds except some high fenced ranches down the road a few miles.
