sig sauer 239 or m&p compact
« on: January 20, 2007, 12:46:05 PM »
Wondering if anyone has any experience with either one of the guns. I have been looking for a new carry gun and have narrowed it down to these two. I'm leaning towards the m&p because the magazine holds more ammo.

Go with the Sig, you won't be sorry.

While I don't have the M&P compact, I do own the normal size M&P .40  When I was looking into purchasing this gun, I tried sigs and many other handguns, polymer and metal alike.  Smith and Wesson has really done their homework to get this pistol to fit the human hand.  I am planning on purchasing an M&P compact for easier concealement with my tax return this year.  The Sig is a great pistol, but I would recommend the M&P based on the more pleasant grip.

You get what you pay for.  It only takes a few dollars more to go first class.  When a M&P has the record of satisfaction amoung those that use guns in their daily duties, or has the reliability of a Sig, then I might consider looking at it.  In the mean time I will stick with a firearm that will diguest 10,00 rounds and continue to function.  Will the M&P do that?

Not to say that the M&P is not a durable gun, but when I carry a gun for self defense, I could care less if it shoots 10,000 rounds.  Although this is a nice feature, I really only care about the rounds that are at my immediate disposal for my defense.  I chose the M&P based on the fact that it fit my hand better and allows me better accuracy.  This matters more to me in a carry gun than the fact I don't have to clean it for 10,000 rounds.  I am not trying to play down the Sig, they are quality weapons with a great reputation.  I simply wanted to inform the original poster of my satisfaction with the gun and the reason for my satisfaction, with the hope that he will find what suits him best.

Choices--well, like looking for a wife--you have a right too choose and the responsibility of accepting what you choose.
I tend too think in short terms. Very few confrontations, outside of combat, are determined by a re-load. What you have is what determines the outcome--this is a trusted and true statement.
I know I can trust a Sig--I KNOW IT.

I was leaning towards the M&P before I emailed smith and wesson that is, they haven't emailed me back and it's been over a week. I wanted to know about the safety(ies) on the M&P. I was wondering if anyone has had any good or bad to say about either smiths or sigs customer service. Thanks for the info so far guys.

I have "several" Sigs, some get a lot of use, others are not used that often. Over the years I have had no requirement to contact Sig customer service, every gun I own has functioned flawlessly.  I think S&W makes a fairly good product, I am sold on their revolvers, and have had good results with them, but I still maintain, it only takes a few dollars more to go first class, buy the Sig!

E-mail is an unreliable way to contact a company.  Your email is often filtered out by the company's spam filters.  It's happened to me when I've contacted other gun makers and businesses, it's not unique to S&W.  Heck, the folks in charge of answering tech questions might still be catching up on all their work after the recent SHOT show.  Try calling them, or even snail mail, if a second email goes unanswered.

I'd go with the Sig for carry, although I also plan to purchase a M&P after tax return time.
