New 'new' Vaquero
« on: February 21, 2007, 02:59:40 PM »
Well, I got my 'new' New Vaquero home today.  No warning visible on side of the barrel!  Well, it's still there, but on the bottom of the barrel.  Now the fun starts!  I had to dress her up a little with a pair of stags for now, but they don't fit close enough to suit me, so I will have to find something else.  Let the fun begin!  44 Man

This is a stainless gun Lloyd, it just looks dark in the picture, maybe I can lighten it up a little more.  The stags were for a Blackhawk and I shortened the nose a little and hogged the back out to clear the lock.  I also had to move the pin hole, that's what they make epoxie for!  These grips were fitted to my 5 1/2 New Vaquero but this 4 5/8's has a larger grip frame and they show silver almost all the way around the grip.  I'm quite surprised by that as I thought that the grip frames were more uniform than this.  I have a mate to this grip on my SBH 44 below, and I may see if that one would fit better.  I'd like to end up with two 4 5/8" stainless guns with the matching set of grips on them.  So I'll check this other set for fit and hope when I buy the mate to this gun that this set might fit that gun better.  44 Man

Well, I started to fit some imitation ivorys to it this morning.  They are a regular Blackhawk grip so I will have to shorten the front, move the pin hole, and relieve the back for the lock.  I'll get some pictures next week.  THEN I will just have to scrimshaw them, won't I.  I'm thinking the likness of my avaitar.  44 Man

Yes, you best be careful Lloyd, I may scrimshaw YOUR likness on your grips!  Ha ha.  The holdup is getting down to my buddy to get those medallions put in.  He has the proper tools for the job.  I also want him to set a pair of Colt medallions in some rosewood 1911 grips for me while I am down there.  Soon, buddy.  44 Man

nice looking grips

How did the factory grips fit?
I seen a new one with the black grips that were about 1/16 ' 1/8" to small for the grip frame in places!
