portable shooting bench plans
« on: January 11, 2007, 12:44:16 PM »
Does anyone out there have plans for a easy to build, inexpensive, and sturdy portable shooting bench?  I don't know if it is ok to post this topic in this section, but I don't know where else it could go and I know that everyone who reloads probably needs a bench.

Thanks,
SWAT

I like the Aero Aces plans, great shooting bench, great for uneven ground. You can also buy the brackets on Ebay.

That one is easy to build and not real stable, does work tho. Built another that needs a pickup to haul but very stable and fairly light until you sit on it.

I found some good plans at boogerbench.com, but the site is unavailable right now, I'm not sure why.  I used it for my bench and it works very well.  I think I have the plans printed off in my files, if you want them, I could probably dig them up.  It's extremely portable and uses folding table legs from an 8-foot table for legs, 1/2 sheet of plywood and some 2x4's, quite simple.

I have found a great, easy, cheap, and very stable shooting bench plan.  My buddy and I thought it up and I have used it a lot on the Prairie Dog towns.  Here's the skinny:

1.  Buy an el-cheapo Black and Decker workmate bench.  One of the off brand ones at your local Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.  I paid $15 for mine with a $5 mail in rebate.
2.  Cut a piece of plywood 25"X40" with a large notch out of one corner for the old pot belly.  Just kidding, but it is more comfortable to shoot with appox.  10"X16" cut out of the corner.
3.  Screw two "L" shape pieces of wood underneath the plywood table top.  Make sure they are placed so that the top two boards on the bench, that are moveable, open up to lock the top in place.  One of the "L" boards will have to be about 12" long for clearance so that you can turn the handles.

My total cost was $10 and a little time since I always have a little extra lumber and plywood laying around.  The bonus is that the bench folds up into a somewhat compact package.

I really like it and it is actually very strong for being so cheap.

I bought a damaged table that was 24 inches wide and 8 ft long at a slavage store for $10. A friend wants me to make him one from the 4 ft leftover. legs cost $18 from Lowe's or Home Depot.

Thanks for all the replies.  I found a set of folding legs from a damaged 8ft table for $5 that I can pick up tommorrow.  I think I will build a Booger Bench.  I will post a pic when I get it done.

Thanks,
