Has any one used a scope mount for the Enfield 2A1 one of the no gunsmithing ones do they work or are they junk? I do not mind if I have to tinker to make it fit as long as it works> Jim

...I've seen a few mounted on Enfields and of all the B square types I think they look like they would actually work.;)

BTW, I didn't know you were working for my old buddy Bill (Graybeard)
I was yacking with him on the forums way back before either of us started our own sites.

Thanks for the reply Bill, I found the book on the Romanian 69 written by Paul on your site thanks. He seems like a nice guy and the book is great. I  gave him a plug on some other sites about the book but would have never seen it unless I had not gone to the Trainer site at your boards. Thanks. Jim

Hey Bill,
Seeing as how I couldn't get any help with this issue on your site........might you have a recommendation for an M38 Swede, 6.5mm in  a good scout-type no drill scope mount???

Thanks,

Savage T, I think B Square makes one for the swede. I do not know if there is a difference in the 96 and the 38 as far as rear sights go. Bill has a good place but they get a bit excited if you mention sporterizing over there. That is their thing and I am for that if you are buying milsurps to collect. The only Milsurp I have seen that I can shoot the open sights good is the Mosin Nagants as the rear sight and front post setup is easy to see not like the fine mausers. I made my scout setup for my semi sporterised Model 96 by taking a 3" 3/4 inch pipe and polishing it and blueing it and drilling and tapping it for a weaver base. The base used for the Remington 7400 or 742 works perfect as the curve on the bottom fits the Pipe. I used brownells acra glass to epoxy the pipe to the barrel as that is how some if the commercial scout bases are installed. I used a thin piece of shim material inbetween the barrel and the pipe with epoxy on both sides of the shim to take up slack between the pipe and the barrel.  Used weaver bases can be had and total cost was under 10 bucks depending on what you have to pay for the base. If you do not have acra glass I suppose any good epoxy would work but I prefer acra glass as it is made for gun use. Of course this set up would be looked at in a dim view at Parralaxe's site but I get guns to shoot and if I cannot see the sights I want to fix them so I can. I have a Williams Peep sightJ on a Turk mauser that I am sure would not pass muster there either.  Jim

Jim's right, we do not support permanent modifications of...
..collectible firearms on Milsurpshooter.Net's forums but to each his own if it is supported elsewhere.  If it's not my site, I don't have a say on the subject matter and that is fair in my view.:)

My reasons have been stated many times that for my site and it's focus on collectible original configuration firearms it would be and has proven to be two types of collector shooters that either cannot or choose not to get along and there again, that is their right.  But the fussin' and fightin' when it turns personal ruins the site IMHO.:)  If this site or any site can do it and not have problems God bless em and more power to them and I will stand in admiration of a site that can do it without problems.

But as a site owner I or anyone else that builds a site for a certain range of subject matter that is within their interest they or we have the right to set limitations on the subject matter.  All site owners do it whether folks accept that fact or not.

For those that wish to use my site I say welcome aboard and have fun learning about the topics the site is about.  If not... you, me or anyone can find their own niche or build one of their own.  That's the beauty of the internet, it's wide open.

I hope I will still be welcomed here even though my site is more narrow in focus.  I like Bill (Graybeard) and have since I met him online 5 or so years ago and think I could contribute but I don't want a shadow of resentment hanging over me    if you know what I mean.

Take care fellas, I'll see you around here, there or anywhere guns and hunting stuff is discussed. It's all good.;)

Was not knocking you or your members Bill I have gotten a lot of valuable info at your site and still check in from time to time. I know your views on the subject  and respect them and though they differ than mine that is fine as I abide by your rules when I am at your place. I Just want guns to shoot and the stock mauser sights have some thing to be desired as far as I am concerned and cannot shoot them so I modify, so I can shoot them. I know some do not like it and my attitude is that with the exeption of my swede the guns I have modified have not been matching so to me they are parts guns and not of a collector status. I know some feel this will change but I feel not in the rest of my lifetime so I am not going to worry about it. I do not feel you have to worry about stating your views here and I am sure they are welcome. Least ways by me they are.

Bill, Just so you know we had a troll here that ran the subject line and body together like you are doing now. I know you would not do any troll things but the subject line and body running together was his signature. Might confuse some here who do not know you yet. Jim

Jim, Parallax Bill,
Thanks to both of you......I think you know how I feel about  milsurp modifications......If not, I simply try to maintain the originality of the piece, but like you, Jim, I can no longer see well enough to use the Mauser sights and have so far used Mojo peep replacements to a limited degree of success.  My thoughts are: If it can be returned to original condition I will go for it.  I purchased an M38 in less than perfect condition, but I'm willing to work at getting it back in shape!.  My biggest concern now are the sights and my miserable eyesight!  Must see what a good scope will do for my abilities, so that's why I'm still asking for a hand with locating a very good no-drill scope mount.  The B-Square mount is available, but I understand it's not really solid or soundly constructed.

Parallax Bill, no personal differences intended.  I appreciate all the help you and your members have given me on your site.  Here at GrayBeard, I think we all get along pretty well without trying to play "one-upmanships", as I've seen on some sites I've spent time at.  As moderator here, I hope I don't come across sounding like I know it all about milsurps, because I don't!  What we try to do is make everyone feel welcome.  That way we enjoy learning a little from one another.  Welcome, and please feel you can bring all your knowledge and experience with you!  We're honored to have you with us.  Pull up a stool and loosen your top button!

Scout mounts for the 38 Swede....
« Reply #14 on: May 24, 2003, 01:58:53 AM »
...are in the works or at least on the list for future design with me and my partner in Darrell's Scout Mounts.

Darrell doesn't have a rifle to use to get the design started but he is planning on developing many new scout mounts for various rifles.  He's a mechanical engineer and I do his prototype work for him.  Stay tuned on his forum on my site for updates and news of upcoming mounts.

BTW, guys, the reason Darrell and I started designing new scout mounts is that we did not care for the B Square design and both of us can't see too good either. :-D

Ya'll have a great memorial day weekend! :D
