If you are like my father-in-law you will have a problem.  In his mid 80’s he checks his e-mail, goes to his church web page, and checks the fishing report.  Then he shuts it off, which does not allow time for his virus updates and the Microsoft updates to download.  I try and stop by once and a while and fire up his computer and down load his updates.  But I do not get into town that often now days and he is on dialup and updates take a long time.

“Date change in 2007
On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. The Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress. Congress retains the right to resume the 2005 Daylight Saving Time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete. http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/b.html   “

The change will also happen in Canada.  http://www.timetemperature.com/tzca/daylight_saving_time_canada.shtml

The Official US Government time:   http://www.time.gov/

If you run a small business and you do not have an IT then update now so that you in the rush of life March 11, 2007 does not catch you off guard.  If you forget to update, on March 11 double click the time in the lower right corner of your screen and update the time.  Every once and a while I will set the time on my computers when I have the gps connected to the computer.  I will let the Satellite's and MapSource do the job. In the Map Source tool bar I select Utilities, and then I select Set PC Clock.  Of course your gps needs to be connected to the PC and receiving a satellite signal.

Hmmm, will this give me an extra hour to hunt next fall? ;D

I edited my earlier post on this subject because a new update for the time change was released.  So if it looks like I am repeating myself you are correct, but I want the orginal 43 views to be aware of the change.

Thanks for the information on the March 5, 2007 update.  I would suggest that gps users check their manufactures support page for updates.  If they have not posted one recently they may be posting updates in the next few weeks regarding the time change.  I know I will be changing clocks all over the house and in vehicles on Sunday, March 11, 2007.

I would recommend that Garmin owners down load Garmin’s Web Updater.  http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp

After down loading the software all you need to do is have your gps hooked to your pc.  Have the gps powered up, have Web Updater powered up and follow the directions.  Rather simple way of avoiding mistakes.

If you find other gps manufactures coming up with updates please post the information and link.

There is a new update for MapSource along with the unit updates.

Garmin quote
“Daylight Savings (DST) change. How do I fix this?
A. In accordance with the Energy Policy Act of 2005, in 2007 Daylight Savings for the United States starts Sunday, March 11th. In order to reflect this change in our GPS units, software updates will be released to accommodate the change. As of March 8th, updates have been released for the StreetPilots 2720, 2730, 2820, 7200, 7500, c310, c320, c330, c510, c530, c550, i2, i3, i5, BMW Navigator III, and nüvi 360. To update those devices, please use our WebUpdater software update program. Updates for other units will be released as they are available. Periodically running WebUpdater with your GPS unit connected to the computer will check for updates.
If an update is not available for your unit to reflect the change to the new start of Daylight Savings Time, please refer to the owner's manual to manually change the time. Owners Manuals”

As noted in a earlier post their have also been updates for the 60X and 76X series.

This morning my Garmin 76Cx had automatically sprang forward an hour adjusting for the new daylight savings time.  But my old 76C with no current software update from Garmin did not make the change.

Got back from my 4+ mile walk and did not fall off the ends of the Earth and the survey points I use to test my unit on where at the same location. Then I made a rather serious move and went back to my 76C Manual.  Remember when JJ was in an uproar over the wording Garmin's use.  Maybe there is an another way, and it could be very simple. Page 56 of the 76C manual address Time Setup.  The right way is to select Setting>Time>Time Zone>and in the Daylight Saving Time box high light Auto with the rocker, press Enter, select yes. :)  This should work for some of the other Garmin models.

A little more information copied from Garmin regarding setting you units time.

Q. How do I get local time displayed? What about daylight-saving time?A. GPS units operate on UTC time. UTC is the Universal Coordinated Time or Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). You can input a local offset (or difference) from UTC so that the unit will display your local time. This option is located under the unit's operational setup. A chart is provided in products' owner's manuals to help you select the appropriate offset for your area. If needed, the chart will also show the UTC offset during daylight-saving periods. New Garmin GPS units allow you to select the time zone you are currently in or select a time zone for a projected location by selecting from one of eight U.S. time zones or 24 international time zones. You may also turn an adjustment for daylight saving to auto, on, or off.

Q. How do I set the correct time on my unit?A. GPS satellites report current time in Universal Time (a.k.a, Greenwich Mean Time or "zulu" time). Your local time is behind or ahead of Universal Time depending on where you are in relation to Greenwich, England. All Garmin GPS units display Universal Time on the System Setup page. Subtract (if you are west of Greenwich, England) or add (if your are east of Greenwich, England) the amount of hours difference between your local time and Universal Time, and enter that amount into the appropriate field on the System Setup page labeled "Local Offset". (In the U.S., you will subtract the hours difference to arrive at a correct local time reading.) A chart is provided in your user's manual to assist you in determining the appropriate value for local offset in your area. New Garmin GPS units also give you the ability to choose one of eight U.S. time zones and 24 international time zones.
