Durn...I can't help myself
« on: January 17, 2007, 07:14:23 AM »

I swore I wouldn't buy another one of these rifles...and here I go and buy 2 combo's this morning...sheeese :-[  Since my 2 boys are wanting to own their own..I figured W-T-H...go get them something easy to use..and won't break the bank...My lovely wife agreed...She wanted something easy for them to learn on..safe to use..and for me not to go crazy at the Gun Store..a real concern of hers...I don't have the faintest idea of why she would think that :D :D :D I had a real nice Winchester Supreme 12ga O/U sitting in the safe gathering a little dust...so I figured why not...Since they really aren't for me per-say ;) ;)  I picked up 1 12ga/223 combo...and a youth 20ga./223 combo...Both have the nickel receivers & synthetic stocks....My oldest is 16 and right at 6'...so he'll get the 12ga...My youngest is 10...and the 20 will be his first...So...I'll have to stock up on the WWB ammo when ever and where ever I can find it...I was going to get them each a new Stevens 200...but after looking thru a dozen last week...and a half dozen of them today...I just couldn't do it..Not because they are bolt guns...but the quality of these I looked at leaves too much to be desired...and I just couldn't see spending more on each a shotgun..and a center fire rifle...The combos cost me less than any of them would have..and should serve them well until they want more...I'll leave that up to them as to what they want after these...and they can pay for them...plus they can send them in and get other barrels..or trade them in on other rifles...the choice will be their to make.....I figure if I set them up the first time...they can handle the next...I had some left over after the trade...and had decided on a used Rem mod 700 ADL 30-06...but I got to go into the gun vault there and look over his selection of fine bolt guns NIB...I picked up a real nice Weatherby MOA 270 WIn..and figure I'll shoot it as it is with it's .350" target group for a while and when I'm ready to kick it up a notch...I'll add a Lilja 3 groove 26" 7mm barrel to it... and make it a 280 AI.. I also pre-ordered one of the new T/C ICONS in 308...he's getting 5 of the first of  them when they come out...and the first one is mine... ;D ;D...That one will probably be for the wife to try and shoot...who knows...we all may wind up hunting together...I can only wish... I know...I know... they are both.. bolt gun..but I figure I just made 2 Handi-holics...and possible 3 if my wife shoot either of the boys new rigs....so that should even things out...and I still have my 2 custom Handi's to play with...too ;)...It's been a very good day Horse trading... ;D

1.5hours of sleep...I get that way on the eve of doing gun trades... :D :D :D :D :D The 280 AI..is a great round my friend...and I have nothing against the 270...I'm just keeping all my options open right now...I could just as easily go with a 26" 3 groove Pac-nor in 270 too...Who knows... Have you been busy reading.. :D :D :D

Your getting off easy , my daughter just turned 17 and wants me to buy her a $ 3000.00 race gun in 38 super , i told her that she will have to pay 1/2 and then i'll cover the rest plus the new holster and mag rig .

 :D :D :D

Yup...I guess I am all things considered...It could have been much worse...and would have if I would have taken the credit card along...Turn me loose in that big a vault...with all those guns...and a piece of plastic...shoot...I really did get off cheap.. :D.. They will work..and both kids have a-lot of common sense..Once they get in to shooting they can figure out what they want...I'm not worried about the oldest...as much as I am the youngest...He's already looking at the Kimber Classic's and Browning O/U's and saying he really likes them a-lot...I don't even want to start showing them pistols :o :o

Good deal! I know they'll enjoy the combos and the time you spend with them.

Not bad Bro...not bad at all. What other young'ns would be better advised on Handi's than Mac's offspring?  ;) I am sure they will find their way. Also cudo's on the new Weatherby MOA 270... they are very good guns and a good platform for a custom.... As I hear a Lilja echo through my ears :o ahhhh it's a nice sound! 8) My friend build a 243 AI on a 700 BluePrinted action with a Lilja. And in time I plan on the same with my XR-100 single shot action..in time. Barrels like these are works of art...and well worth the price.

Enjoy your new/...sons new ;D rifles/shotguns.

Well, some promote the bolt addition & some the Handi addition & sometimes that leads to an expensive compulsion to use both!  ;D

Nope...no hail Marys for me...even though I am Lutheran :D :D :D I'm not looking for forgiveness anyways...They are what they are..and until those that can make them even better do just that...they will always remain so... My boys already know what they can be.....It's up to them to decide if they want to embark on that path... ;)

Well I have a Browning O/U and am considering a kimber pistol here before too long.  Good luck with the youngest and his taste for the expensive things in life.  I am not going to say finer things in life because you already bought him the handi(s)  ;)

Good on you Mac. You'll never regret spending time with your boys. When my boy was sixteen I thought I was too busy at work or too tired or too something and I kind of "lost' him.  BUT this last fall he got his PAL and his license and I took him deer hunting. He drew-down on one but it was moving too fast------------but he felt 'the rush'. We bought him  a 204 Ruger for Christmas and we plan tol do some coyote hunting ;D ;D ;D ;D

Happy hunting Mac ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
