Converting MP3 sounds
« on: January 12, 2007, 04:10:04 AM »
I have several CDs with calling sounds.  I would like to convert them to an MP3 format.  Anyone know of a free program that completes this process?

My goal would be:
1. Convert CD files to MP3
2. Be able to adjust the volume of the MP3 file. (this way I could have the first sequence at 1/2 volume and then louder with later sequences).

Any help is appreciated.

Tipiguy.

you basically need a program that will rip the CD into MP3 files. do a google search as "free cd ripper program" or free mp3 converter program and see what you get. shouldn't bee too hard to get one or two programs and you can see which is easeir to operate from there. good luck.

or go to varmintal.com where he has mp3 sounds already set up you just download and save. ;)

Have some downloads you can do right here on page 3 of this forum titled Western Rivers Downloads.
It is free & pretty much just a drag N drop away from your harddrive.

There is a free program you can download called Goldwave that will allow you to convert and customize your CD.

The first part is easy.  There are hundreds of programs to rip MP3 files from CDs.  The second part is not so easy.  Adjusting the volume of an MP3 generally requires a program leaning to the professional side.  They are available, an if you look in forgotten corners of the 'net you can find them for free download.  Magix makes a pretty good program that I bought for $40 at Best Buy.  With it, you can not only adjust the volume, but you could combine multiple tracks.  Say creating a sound where the rabbit in distress is squealing over coyote barks or something like that.

I used a program that was free on the net today- Audacity.  In 5 minutes I had it running and was converting .wav files with coyote sounds, etc. into MP3s and they sounded really good too.
