What loads can be shot from the USH

What types of loads can be shot from the ultra slug hunters guns?  Can you shoot regular slugs or just the sabot type.  Does anybody shoot buck shot or turkey loads from these?  I think I want one for hog hunting and was just wondering how versitle they are.

Rifled shotgun barrels are supposed to be designed only for sabot slugs.  However, I have had fairly decent accuracy with mine when using Challengers, which are not sabots but I'm not totally sure if they're old-fashioned Forster style slugs either.  They'll go into about 4 1/2 inches @ 100 yards.  Of course, Winchester Partition Golds will print 2", sometimes better. :)

Rifled barrels are definitely not the way to go with shot loads.  I'm assuming that the rifling  imparts centrifugal force that scatters the shot.  Whatever the explanation, you get HUGE patterns.  Don't ask how I know.  But shot loads are cheap, so you know you're gonna try it.

Yep, got to try it.  Just wanted to make sure that it would not hurt the rifleing.  I'll have to try the forrester type, they are alot cheaper to buy.

Some here say they have great luck with the Buckhammers out of thier Tracker II's. You may have to clean quite a bit of lead from the Tracker II's rifling after shooting many slugs made of soft lead especially for smoothbores....I have a Tracker II with a scope mounted and it's great, however I don't use it. I prefer my Tracker I's in 12 and 20 gauge. Or even my 24" 12 gauge turkey barrel with an Improved or Modified Choke tube shooting Brenneke Slugs or a full choke tube for double O, or better yet triple O buckshot  (if I am going to shoot it). I do have to get some of the Dixie "Tri-Ball" loads and try them in my 12 Gauge Tracker I, that stuff seems like it would be great!!! And if you are a hog hunter with a shotgun you cannot beat those Dixie slugs, or even the Tri-Ball load from what I have heard about it. Very Hard cast, heavy, and GREAT penetration!!!....<><.... :)

If you haven't already purchased the USH and are going to use it to "tote" around out in the field, remember they have substantial weight and seemed better suited (to me) for stand hunting. The Tracker II (rifled barrel) is a great carry around gun, (just over 5lbs.)and the Tracker I barrel if you can find one is a smoothbore and can shoot all the loads you want plus the Foster style slugs you mentioned. The H&R factory may even have some of the smoothbore Tracker I barrels available.

Carbineman is correct ccoorreeyy, get a Tracker I and you will be very happy, or get yourself a 12 gauge 24" turkey barrel with screw in choke tubes for a little more versatility, that is my vote for what you need....<><.... ;)
