I have a friend who uses the T/C Renegade rifle with those black iron sights. He ended up putting just a stroke of white paint across both the front & rear sights and it made an incredible difference in the low light visibiltiy. That rear sight was the standard partridge type though.

I dont know if you would want to touch the rear peep at all but it should help a bunch to get some white paint on your front sight.

Use an adjustable eye piece and when you are in low light situations use one of the larger holes in it,this will help you.
In more bright light or longer ranges use the smallest hole you can.
I never used peep sights until Army Basic at Fort Know, but when I did,i liked them-still do!
Or else, try talking Joe out of a Ruger .32 magnum revolver, that's a FUN waste of time! :-X

#1). BIG HOLE. You want the biggest "peep" you can get to let all the available light thru... Some use these in regular light on dangerous game rifles and call them "ghost rings." Your eye will automatically center the thing you focus on (front sight I hope) in the strongest light in the circle. So beware strong light from the side if the shot is very long.

Jack O'Connor used to talk of buying an expensive rifle with an expensive peep sight, unscrewing the tiny hole peep disk, throwing it in a drawer, and going hunting with the threaded ring...

#2). Modern tricks... red nail polish on, flourescent orange paint on the front sight??? White? Your call. You want all the help you can get picking up the sight in the low light. If you have the inclination and bucks there are the radium radioactive front sights that glow in the dark... From there, you might want to put paint around the inside of the ring to help you there, but it is tricky. This is alot of personal preference and then practice. This is CRUDE and you have to learn to use it as best you can with whatever quality of eyesight you have. LUCK.

Once i boughtan English Sporting rifle with a tang peep sight, and it had a small brass ring inside the eyepiece.
Upon further investigation it was just a pice of brass rod, shortened and an aperature hole cut into it,and it also helped guide the eye for a faster shooting picture. It seemed to be a good idea, and maybe it could use a silver ring as well?

JOE.....If you have one of those .32 mag S/A guns you might need to send it up this way for testing. I had been coveting Jerry Lesters conversion as told in "new gun first kills" on page 3 of the handgun hunting forum. ;D

Sorry for blowing the post. Removing the insert on a peep (if possible) or going with the ghost ring makes good sense as this principle works well even when using an old buckhorn sight on a blkpwder rifle.

Cabelas sells a glow in the dark paint for around $7.  It works great.  It is white in the day, and glows green in the dark.

If it were my sight, I would try taking a piece of the smallest weed whacker string I could find in florescent green or orange and glue it to the top edge of the front sight. Then when sighting in, the rear sight would only have to be raised slightly ..should give you a nice, bright "bead".

Yep, I was a welder and worked on power houses, Gas plants and so forth and at 37 yrs old i had to start wearing glasses and trying to hunt in my spare time, then when i turned 65yrs i got to where i could not see any thing through my left eye ( Macular Degeneration ) and now i cant see diddly poop, So my Statement about the use of scopes on all my rifles came about. By the way i just turned 73 this Feb. 8th and headed down hill like a train with no wheels. Got to make the best out of what time i have left.

Sorry to hear about your wife's ailments, They have made a lot of progress in the last few years and hopefully they will find some relief for your wife. Most of us old codgers spend a lot of time catering to the younger generation than we did on ourselves. I guess we have blown the thread but  what the heck, I doubt any one will give us the growl. Have a good day sir.....Joe......
