Looking to reload a small caliber.
« on: January 22, 2007, 02:42:25 PM »
I'm think'n that just for the hekk of it I'll set up to reload a small caliber like some sort of .22.  Is there any cartridge that is really a standout in that range?  I see where the .223 Rem. will fire a 50 gr. bullet at 3400 fps from a 26" barrel but I'm think'n of an Encore or Contender barrel about 14" max.  Several years ago I shot a .223 Rem XP and was amazed by the accuracy.  Tell me what you think.

I shoot a .223 Contender 14". It is very accurate (3/8" @ 100 yds.) IMHO that is what to go with. My velocities are around 3000 fps. with 50 gr.

I like the .222 better. A hair less velosity but supposed to be mosre accurate?????? BUT it has a longer case neck which makes it easier to relaod. Muzzle blast will be a tad less in a short barrel also. Really not alot of difference between the 2 and I would suggest you pick the barrel you can find the cheapest.
