Silhouette Scope for a 9741 Mount

Guys:

Just picked up a Contender...complete with a 14" .22 barrel, TC 9741 Scope Mount (the one for Lobo and RP series scopes) and a TC 2.5 RP "rail mount" scope.

I want to fit the gun with a variable scope, so I can shoot silhouette (taco hold).

The 9741 mount is a mount for an RP scope with an exteral rail attached.  Is there a variable scope out there I can fit on this gun and use the exiting TC 9741 scope mount?   :?

There ain't to my knowledge. Maybe T/C made a variable "Recoil Proof" scope, but it'd prolly be pretty low power. Just get a Weaver mount. It's easy, an' rings are also easy to come by. Now that you got that scope & mount just sittin' around, why not get another barrel to put it on... Well, you see how this gets started,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bug.

Bug:

I've got a weaver mount...my "plan" was to do just as you had suggested.  BUT, one of the dang screws holding the mount to the barrel is stripped...couldn't get a bite on it.  I was looking for another way out...as I've already got a spot picked-out for the 2.5x!

Guess it's off to the shop to get the screw pulled.

Chris,
 What kinda screw head is it? If it's a regular flat-tip, often you can use a small, flat point punch and small hammer to peen enough metal back into the slot so it can be removed. If it's an allen head, find the metric size that's slightly too large, or a Torx bit, and drive it into the hole to remove it. The tapping in part is every bit as important as the twisting part. Failing that, just use a drill bit about the same size as the hole in the mount, and drill off the screw head. when the head comes off, so does the mount, leaving just enough screw to LIGHTLY grip, with a small pair of Visegrips, and unscrew.

THANKS BUG!

Drilled the head of the screw and now I'm back in business!   There was only one thing wrong with that idea...and that was that I didn't think of it first!  HA!    :)

Thanks again for the help...now I'm off to find a new scope.

To Bug & Chris nice to here you trying to drill out a stripped out screw head worked.  I had the same problem with a Redfield mount & tried the   same thing-bad idea.  Even though I drilled the heads off, the mount still   would'nt come off.  Ended up taking it to a local gunsmith, who luckily got  it off without damaging the mount or the barrel.  Gunsmith found that the mount had been glued on...  Ken

Chris,

The instructions that come from T/C with that rail mount state that it should be epoxyed to the barrel in addition to the screws.  

I haven't done it on mine, have two Contender barrels and two Renegade barrels with that style rail mount, and they work fine.  I switch a couple of the 2.5 power scopes between them.

In going back through my old catalogs I haven't seen any references to any varriable powder scopes with the rail mount.
