Scotia Hunter:  I read about that in the Schenectady Gazoo.  I know something about Fishers and they do not attack humans unless they are rabid.  The Fishers I have encountered do their best to avoid humans.

This tells me we still ahve Rabies in the area.  I had thought it may have died out a few years ago - remember the one epidemic we had in the early 90s that swept from Washington D.C. to Montreal - took out about 80% of the Racoon population and a number of whitetail as well.  We saw a drop in the number of hunting licenses issued during those years.  Then about 10 years later we had another bout with Rabies - I shot 6 or seven rabid Racoons in my yard that year.  I have not seen a live racoon in a couple of years and thought their numbers may have been significantly reduced and possibly so but, to have a case of Rabies in a Fisher is pretty rare and indicates that Rabies is still prevalent in this area.

Be careful out there.  Mikey.
