Sure you can, just buy a short scope or a red-dot.

And the Weigand mount is an attractive set-up.

I know this might be a dumd question but were would the scope mount.  The  5 1/2" barrel does not look like it has the barrel to mount the scope rings to it or a weaver mounting system.   However, I do like the 5 1/2" barrel.
How does the Weigand mount set up?

The Weigand would require removal of the rear sight, use of the rear sight hole, and drilling and tapping the topstrap to mount the base. The base fits over the sides of the topstrap a bit, hiding the rear sight mounting pin hole, making for a neat looking installation. Go to his website for a view.

JKump;
No such thing as a dumb question. I have an old 7 1/2" Redhawk, before they made the scope grooves in the barrel. I didn't want to drill the frame so I mounted a Weaver scope mount. All you have to do is remove the rear sight. Mounted a 2x Leupold on it. Never had a problem with this mounting system. It always held its zero with some pretty heavy magnum loads. Shot alot of game with it.

I own the 5 1/2" Redhawk in 44 Mag. I put a Leupole scope on it. And shot it a few times with full power loads
and the recoil broke my screws that were holding the base on. So I took it off and put Iron sights back on with new screws.

It might have been alright if I didn't shoot full house loads, But thats what I like to shoot.
