7 x 30 and Accubonds
« on: February 07, 2007, 02:35:06 AM »
I was over in the medium bore site and leafed through 23 pages of very usefull bullet info. I was surprised at how many like the nosler ballistic tip for accuracy ( which is why I like them also) BUT haven't had good results with them on game and have moved up to a better grade bullet for hunting ! It seems there designed for velocitys under 2800 fps. and anything over that they have the possibility of coming apart and not penetrating !! Exactly what I was afraid of especially with the 120 gr. in the waters and have read reports of this .So I think I have found a new bullet for the waters , it was designed with 139 gr bullets ! The 140 gr. Accubond should be the best of both worlds , B.Tip accuracy , bonded core design , tip protected and very good penetration even on a shoulder hit , I don't think I will be over 2800 with the bt but why take the chance ? , the accubond should do everything the the BT will do and more!! What do you guys think???

ch - let me know what powder and results you are getting if you have a chance to test them out. Not a big Nosler fan here as they didn't handle a customer service issue for me very well. Just never gave them much biz after that.

SKB, the 140 gr. ballistic tips are shooting really good in my contender with 23'' bbl. with 30 gr. H-4895 fed primer , I'm getting 1/2 '' or less  at 100 yds. , got my OAL at 2.875 , If your interested in how the  the accubonds do ,I will be sure to let you no as soon as I can find some and get a break in the weather!!! I'M hoping they shoot as good as the BT'S . Wish I had a chrony!! but according to the books its doing 2400 fps .

Weather here hasn't even let me out to fireform any brass for my 7-30 W yet. What are you using for fire form loads. I'm just using up all my leftover stuff to get mine.

I have been using up some cheaper bullets I had laying around also , my fire-forming load is 32 grs. H4895 fed 210 primer 2.780-2.785 OAL AND THAT WAS SPEER spitzer 120 gr bullet

So whats everybodys thoughts on the nosler 140 gr ballistic tip versus the 140gr. accubond out of the T/C carbine 23'' 7x30 waters doing about 2450 fps on fairly big PA deer ??
