Model 7 Scope Mounts
« on: January 21, 2007, 11:10:12 AM »
I was trying to find a one piece Base for the Model 7...So far no luck.

Rings are not a problem, but I wanted to use a one piece base instead of two pieces.

Anyone have a suggestion?

I know a one piece base was available at one time, but so far I am having no luck finding them.

There are in effect TWO different Model 7's. The original had only three holes for the scope base and one piece bases were the ONLY bases available. For the last few years Remington has been putting four holes in the Model 7 for a scope base. I've not really checked to see if those old one piece bases would fit the new guns or not. I'd not just assume it will without putting a base up to the gun to see if the three holes align. I have no clue if anyone makes a one piece base for the newer ones or not.

Personally I'd never put a one piece base on a gun that would take a two piece base but that's just me.

While I personally never had any problems with two piece bases, I have heard of certain range problems with the Model 7 that going to a one piece base is the only cheap solution.  Maybe it was the Brand Name or just a Lemon set, but switching to a one piece base can sometimes cure accuracy problems with the 7.  Or so Range Legend has it.

Don't know what range you hang around at but I've sure never heard that story before. Nor do I believe it. The least accurate Model 7 I've ever seen wears a one piece base. ALL the old ones have to as there is no two piece bases for them. ALL the newer ones I've seen and which have come home with me wore two piece bases and all were more accurate. I think you need to find a different range to listen to gossip on.

While some ranges have more than their share of Rookies who believe more in Urban Legends, the range I frequent has Lifetime Shooters, Bench Rest Competitions, and probably total years of experience that would add up in the thousands of years around guns, sights and scopes.

I can assure you that in some cases, a one piece base answers a accuracy problem.  That isn't folklore, that is a fact.

Come up to Pennsylvania sometime, and I can introduce you to the people at the range I frequent.  You can tell them your theory about their range expertise.  And maybe you can show them how you do it.  Then we'll go to the Clubhouse and have a few.

I have one of the original Model Sevens bought in 1992 and I have had 2 piece Kwik Site see-thru bases on it since it was new and have never had a problem with them.Nor have I had any problem with the accuracy of the rifle.

Stan how did you attach the rear base with only one hole there? Did you have a second one drilled and tapped?
