H&R Ultra Slug Hunter
« on: January 26, 2007, 05:25:32 PM »
If you are an owner  of a tH&R Ultra Slug Hunter can you tell me pros/cons and what type of rounds you use in them, also where can I find a dealer (I'm near Peterborough Ontario, Canada) does the heavy barrel help reduce recoil also. I'm looking at the Ultra Slug Hunter plus their excell automatic in combo so if anyone has one of these also let me know on it .
Thanks

Canandian,
A friend of mine has one in 20ga. He shoots lightfield slugs and touches holes at 100yds. its topped with a 2x7 scope
Whether the target is paper, a can, or whatever. The objective is the same- Put it where the hairs cross.

canadian;

I have had a 20gaUSH for over 3years with excellent success with the afore mentioned Lightfield Hybred Exp's and Remington

copper solids 2" groups at 100yds ,I chose the youth model for the lighter weight and bulky cloths needed in winter which helps

with shorter stock. Dick's and MC sporting goods has the best prices around here if you can find the gun, when I had difficulty

3years ago I called the factory and was told they only production run them prior to the fall deer hunting season in a limited amount

if this is still true they will be very scarce this time of year.GL ???

I don't know if your looking for a 12 or 20 ga USH but I have both.

The 12 ga cons: it's heavy.
The 12 ga pros: it's heavy.....but that's what absorbs the recoil.
I honestly don't think the 12 ga recoil is all that bad.
Certainly a great deal less than what I experienced with my 870.
I've only been able to sight in at 50 yds at the range.
But with the 2-3/4 (1450 fps) Barnes Expanders I can consistently keep groups within an inch or so.

I have limited experience with the 20 ga USH but I'll be spending alot of range time with it this spring.
As far as recoil, compared to the 12 ga...there is none.
The 20 is relatively heavy compared to most 20's due to the bull barrel.
Noticeably lighter than the 12 though.

The Ultra Slug Hunter's definately shoots as well as everything you may have read about them.
Whichever one you choose you won't be sorry.

Remington 870 Express (12 ga.)
